you end up with too much gear reduction for a car by doing the fwd transaxle thing. Basically, the output from the transaxle is already geared down to useful speeds directly attached to a wheel, but it would have to go through another diff... adding 3:1 (approx, whatever the diff is) reduction to it again. Awesome for a 4x4, kinda crappy for a road car =)

One of the competitors in this year's UROC comp here in Phoenix had a Honda crawler built in that fashion. Worked pretty well.

If you buy a wreck, let me know if you need the trailer to move it. I'd like to make a trip down to the valley anyway. Smile

Right now, I have a line on a 1988 240sx rolling chassis.. with title! offered the guy $400 for it to beat out another bid. Hopefully I can get ahold of him and I'll be picking it up tonight. That would at least get me started on the suspension and IRS.

Mike, what do you think that 240sx would go for? If this other guy doesnt get back to me, I can put in a bid on that one.

Are you gonna powdercoat the chassis after you finish welding it up?

SWEEEET!!! Got ahold of the guy and I'm going to be picking up the rolling chassis this afternoon (I am borrowing a trailer from a friend).

Its got enough good parts on it that I should be able to part it out for much more than I paid...

I'll just be spraypainting the chassis. powdercoat is cool for a finished chassis, but with what I'm building, I'm sure there will be changes needed here and there as I go, so paint would be much easier to deal with.
