They'll break quicker if they're loose.

Anyone following in your footsteps -not using mag wheels- should make sure they go "ping, ping, ping( repeat) when turned against something metal.

A spoke wrench, and a good eye( and ear) for truing wheels, will go a long way in keeping the spokes alive.

Keep it shiny side up, John.

If I win the lottery, I'll get one of these
a Loremo. It supposedly gets 150mpg and seats 2 ADULTS/ two kids.

There's no doors, per se, entry is gained thru the rear hatch and "hood". It suppoedl makes for a very strong body( makes sense).

I wonder how a nice simple little bmx style frame out of 1 1/2" DOM would do with that setup.

As long as the engine fits in the frame, it would work great.

Welp, I have over 100 miles on the bike. So far, so good! Its been a pretty strong running engine and is just now getting broken in. The top end power is much better. The engine likes to run at around 23 mph. I have been using the bike every day for running local errands. So far its been great. Trips take about as long as they would in a car & parking and all that, but after 100 miles, I've just about put 1 gallon of gas through it.

I ran it out of gas today on accident. Found out that the bottom of the tank forms a sort of reserve when you run it dry. I just had to stop and tip the bike over sideways and the rest of the fuel could be used. Was more than enough gas to get me home where I have a 5 gal jerry can of 2 stroke mixed up and ready to go.

I'm really starting to enjoy zipping around on this thing. Should pay for itself pretty quickly as well. Had I driven my altima, I'd have spent $16 in gas running errands in the last week and a half.

I've been thinking about scooters.

There are some that will do 70mph and still get 60mpg. Trouble is, to buy one new, I'd have to drive it 45,000 miles for it to pay for itself over driving my car assuming a $6k purchase price and $4 gas.

But some of these things are getting pretty nice. Honda makes one with a 549cc engine that really scoots but it doesn't get the fuel economy. There are smaller ones in the 250cc range that do though. I can't justify the little 50cc jobbies if I seriously want to ride one to work 23 miles one way.

Heh....it's pretty hard to look cool on a scooter...

Then again, the $50 a week in gas just to go to work is getting old too.

I respectfully disagree. How can you NOT look cool on a scooter?

Hehe, remember who submitted that pic to Fark in the first place!

As for this motorized bike thing, I may do something similar myself. My wife and I just separated and my new place is about a mile from my office. I plan on riding my bike to and from as much as possible, but we're just getting our first bout of hot and sticky weather and it's only going to get worse. I don't want to be a sweaty pig in the morning arriving at work, and the ride home will be extremely unpleasant.
I think I'm going to look into something electric vs. gas though.
Then again, I'm thinking I may just get a Razor E300, it can handle a short hop like that no problem, plus my son would be able to use it otherwise.

Schwinn has a selection of e-bikes from $2500 to
$4000. I can buy a 625 - 1000 gallons of four dollar gas for that and ride in style for another while or two.

Well, I've now got 225+ miles on the bike/engine combo and its been great!

The engine is broken in now and just hums right along. I swapped the 48 tooth rear drive sprocket for a 44 tooth to get a bit more speed. It now tops out at 30mph & cruises comfortably at 22-25mph. I also added a Tachometer/Hourmeter and an analog odometer to the bike. I hit 7k rpm briefly today seeing how fast it'd go. I have a 36 tooth sprocket that I can drop to for insane speed. Would be good for 40-45mph. Way too fast on a bike!

My only complaint so far is that my hands go numb from the vibration in the handlebars. Other than that, its getting over 150mpg now that its broken in and has been a lot of fun to ride around!
