Not 100% sure what model this is. But it is in GREAT shape for being 50+ years old. Nine of the tires are still good and inflated. Trying to talk the other half into letting me get it. I have the number of the owner but haven't called him yet. If anyone is interested, It's in north central Oklahoma.

is that a 5 ton or a 2.5 ton? a 4x4 or 6x6? Not sure if that is the definitive way to tell...

Do you have a use for it?

Just looking at the bumper alone, I'd say it's a 5 ton.

Was there a ram under the bed( dump)?

I think it's a 2.5 ton. It did have a dump bed and it's 6X6. The transfer case looks to have 3 outputs, one front and two rear instead of one to the rear and then the front 3rd member having an output.

A use for it? How could I have a use for it? It is just friggin cool! The area I live in right now doesn't have a lot of rock. It is a high clay content soil and it's almost ALL sedimentary so a vehicle more equiped for mud is ok.

It's a 50's era deuce and a half. Not the current model, but should have a lot of the same beefy hardware.

Top speed on that bad boy when running right is gonna be about 45 mph.

I'd grab it, pull the engine, and install a Cummins 6 cyl diesel in it. Then install a seperate overdrive box and you could drive it on the freeway if needed.

Now, making it not so scary at freeway speeds is another issue altogether. h

I would love one of those old deuce and a halfs. It'd just be fun to play with, whatever you ended up doing to it.

I dunno, maybe you're gonna start up a materials hauling/ grading biz... Just need a trailer and a skiploader/ bobcat/ whatever and your in.

That , of course, and get that thing roadworthy( after you get a whole new set of tools to work on it).

I imagine a big bank account would help ,as well.

Nah I just think it's cool, no purpose to it.

Datz: that is EXACTLY what I thought about doing. The diesels in light duty trucks these days are amazing. I found where most of these trucks had gas engines that made <100 hp. No wonder ~45 was the top speed. Can you imagine a 600+ ft/lb diesel in that with appropriate gears?

If anyone knows more, post or PM me. I'm itching to know more even if I can't get it.

It is probably a diesel most trucks after the late 1940's were multifuel diesel trucks we learned from the germans diesel was so much less volitle.
They ran on pretty much anything you threw in the tank. The 60's and 70's era 2 1/2 ton and 5 ton trucks had a turbo diesel in them top speed is supposed to be 55 mph. I have driven one at 65 mph damn scary to go that fast in a big heavy truck like that.
