Test drove a unimog today!!!! It rocked! I had some trouble with the gears not at all like anything that I have driven but we had a blast! I am setting a goal of 8 months and I plan to make a buy.

I'm planning on getting one in the next few months myself. Those things are just awesome.

big grin Then we'll all have unimogs. How cool would that be. We'd have to change the site to Nissan&Unimog4wheelers.com. hahaha

I think I rather have a pinz over a unimog. The pinz has a higher top speed than the mog.

Unimogs Rock! the pinz. are cool and everything but the unimog is the BEAST off road. Not to mention you can haul 2 tons and tow 3 tons. solid axle that are portaled (sp?)front and back. Shift on the fly four wheel drive. It does not have a true tansfer case (i am not sure how it works yet) but the first two gears are so low that you start in 3rd on the pavement. The Big Boy Diesels (440 I think) have eight gears two very low and the 8th you can cruise at 60 easy. They cost 35,000.

But the unimogs, gas powered low gearing, solid axle flexing just ROcks. all for eight grand. i am selling everything and going for it. A turn-key that is killer right out of the box!

D.C., you can get the Swiss troop carrier Unimog 404.0 for $7500 in Prescott, ready to drive. $8k still isnt bad though if the truck is in good shape.

Just make SURE its a Swiss Military version, and NOT a German military version, if you are buying straight off the military surplus shipments. The German military trucks were stored outdoors and will generally need more repair, rubber parts, and whatnot to get them in good wheeling/driving shape. The Swiss truck canvas is usually a lot better (usually like new) because of this. Also, make sure the 5th gear synchro is in good shape. Some of them tend to grind, I've heard. Trannies are about $1500.

They dont have transfer cases. 1st gear is a 113:1 crawl ratio, 2nd gear is a little faster. 3rd or 4th gear is a normal low 1st gear in any other truck. 6th gear is about 3rd-4th gear in an ordinary truck. They cant go much faster than 55mph, and I hear are pretty scary at that speed anyway. razz

Are you going to get a radio box truck or troop carrier? I'm going for the troop carrier model w/ convertible cab myself.

Just think.. you can tell people you have a Mercedes Covertible. big grin

those are cool pics. I am still prolly end up getting a pinz just because its smaller; better for narrow trails.

Marshall, Pinz's generally run about $10k each.. Mogs start at $7500. The only downside is there is probably a lot of trails a mog wont go on due to their enormous size.

For those of you who want to have a Mog but would like to have a smaller size vehicle you should look for the 411. It has a 25-35hp, depending on year, diesel 4 cyl and about a 83" wheelbase, dont remember exactly. One MAJOR drawback is it will only top out at about 35-40 mph.

check out this link.

Yeah, the 411's are really cool. I rarely see them for sale, though....

Yeah, 411s are really rare. Speaking of being rare, I hear the Swiss 404s are becoming very hard to find now. Apparently they've exhausted their supply of them overseas, and the state of the current economy isnt going to lead to very many more mog imports.

I emailed Shep Shepard and thats what he said.. Hes got 3 404.1 Troop carriers left at his place varying from $7500-$9500 depending on how well they are outfitted.. Hopefully I can get one before they run out. frown

Sean, what other dealers are there in AZ? I need to get in contact with all of them to find out what is still available before its too late.
