Take a look at my 1975 Styer-Puch 712m Warn Racing Pinzgauer!

gas fired eberspacher heater

drivers seat...and oh it is sweet!

the bed on my Warn rally Pinzgauer...

I hate to say it but this thing will eat my Patrols alive! And anything else with 4 wheels cept maybe a Unimog. There is only 2-3 of these racing Pinz in the USA. This one was owned by none other than Mike Warn who had it built for thr Transylvania Throphy. He raced it in 93 and then couldn't get it into the USA...so he sold it to a offroad racer over there who raced it more in Europe and a bit in N.Africa. It was then imported into the USA in 2000 and somehow it ended up in my hands. I just kinda of stumbled upon it and couldn't believe it was for sale, I had to have it! I bought it less than 6 months ago off a guy who had it stored since he bought it off the importer. These Pinzies have portal axels (15" of clearance!!), obviously 6 wheel drive, locking diffs at all six wheels and a fording depth of about 40" with no snorkel!! This rig has 6 recaro seats, a burly gas fired heater, exterior roll cage, aluminume tool boxes, dual gell cell bateries, 7 Silverstones and 12lbs winch mount front with 6lbs multi mount in rear. Can you believe it is street legal and I have insurance on this thing!!!

Yeah, we wheel with a lot of the local Pinzgauer guys down here in AZ. Have only seen one or two 6wd ones on the trails, and lots of 4wd ones. The 4wd ones are a little too tippy in the off camber stuff for my liking, but if you keep them upright, they're very capable. They just don't flex.

Got a buddy named Travis Freedman that sells them. He's currently out in Quartzite, AZ. Sean Ford (Pinzsean on this board) is the president of SWPC - the local Pinz club. A lot of guys around here get their parts, etc. through a guy named Shep in Prescott.

Nice truck! If I were to ever think about a Pinz, the 6wd is the only one I'd consider. They're real fun to get through emissions testing down here though... roll eyes

Pinz's are cool, but like Andy said, the 4 wheel ones are WAY too unstable. Plus, parts are more expensive than Nissan parts... The 6x6's are cool though...

6x6 pinz's rock!! I see a pinz at least once a week driving around here. Saw a sweet hardtop 4x4 pinz radio truck the other day.

This is what I REALLY want: big grin big grin

I'd be happy with just the normal 404 troop transporter though.

A 6x6 is definately not for everyone. I thought you guys might know some people with them....I know of a couple dealers down that way. True the 710 is tippy, the way these are designed tippy is the result. Yet it is hard to tip one over and harder with a 712, definately a Pinz is a diffrent kind of offroading....but with six wheel drive I can't complain big grin

Funny thing about parts....yea they are expensive but no more expensive than my Chevy HD which in turn is about the same cost of parts on the old Patrols!

If I ever come down that way to offroad I would probily bring a Patrol cause it is so much easier to transport. Yet this vehicle has a serious "cool" factor and it is fun to drive and show off. Unimogs are great too but slow as hell and big....a 404 troopie can be had for fairly cheap, I have seen projects for well under $5k....and nice ones for well under $10k. I love all these rigs but at heart the Patrols are my favorite big grin

Wonder what the newer Mog U5000's cost overseas, nevermind the cost of importing?

I was working on/with my Pinz over the weekend...

this thing is just soooo damn cool I think I may start playing/working/spending $$ on it more soon.

One thing I noticed about it that I think I have forgotten to tell people about is it has a snorkle from engine air intake that is piped into the exterior roll bar. The rollbar actually serveres as the snorkle! It seems like a pretty good idea to me and also seems to work very well. The air intake is above the passanger door, there are a bunch of holes drilled in the rollbar with screening over the holes. A pipe is welded to the front LH side of the rollbar near the bumper. A flexable hose is then used to connect from here to the engine air intake. It has a large canister style air cleaner like those found on equiptment. Pretty damn slick set up I think...maybe this idea could be of use to someone doing a custom project....

Fudd, ballpark, how much did that 6x6 set you back if I may ask?
