Well, since you all like MOG's... I know of one for sale. smile $6500 for a retired Unimog German fire truck.

Those things are really cool. Heard about one taking a tumble down an obstacle at J.R.O.C.C. this year. Heald up great. smile

Those are sweet pictures. One of them looks like it is sinking eek. The tires on that first one remind me of the tires you see on bulldozers big grin.

Actually, I'm gonna be getting one soon, hopefully. It would be a perfect utility vehicle. I need a pickup, and something that will go anywhere for next to nothing in price is really tempting. I also like the solid axle over the independant suspension of the Pinzgauers.

Id like to go for a freshly retired Swiss military troop transport 404, since their storage lends them to be in better shape than the ones from the German military. I can get them here for $7500 off the lot with only 6-8k miles on them. smile Then modify it to suit my needs.

SlackerX, we ought to see if they will let us take it for a test ride out to AZ and CO and back! That would be cool!

John, if you get a mog, you're my freakin' hero. If you sell the Patrol to do it, let me know! I'd drive out and flat tow it home.

Well, the Patrol will be another project. I'm saving it for my dad and I to work on together as kinda a father-son thing.

If the Patrol were to go up for sale, I'll definitely let you know though. For now, its gonna sit until the 'rents move back to Arizona next year and we figure out what direction we want to take with it. If plans change, then I'll let you know. smile

I really want a mog. big grin

How cool! That would be an awesome project, then you guys could go wheel together. Man, when I have a son, thats what I want to do.

Don't blame you about wanting a mog, had no idea they were that reasonable and available. Man, you price out an axle swap compared to purchasing a mog and it makes for a tough decision.

Yep.. tell me about it. The STOCK specs for those mogs is very impressive..

37" tires, 112:1 STOCK crawl ratio, front and rear difflocks, 60 degrees of axle articulation (30 per axle), near 100% grade ability, 31" fording capability (without a snorkle). And they are very reliable trucks too. Then, consider you can get ag-gears for it (a bolt on module) for about $700 to double the crawl ratio.. insane.

well, the unimog is cool.. BUT they are NOT suitable to be a daily driver in the summer at least. They are noisy, hot, uncomfortable, and are just shear beasts to drive. But, they will get the job done if you need to haul stuff around (axles, engines, anything up to a 3300lb payload)...

If I got one, there is no way in hell that I'd sell my pathy.. The Pathy is a great truck to drive daily.

Well MVM, I don't know about an extended "test drive" hehehe. Although it is a student that is trying to sell it. I might be able to talk him down. If I can get him down to $5K, I might get it. I don't see it happening but there's no shame in asking. smile

I still have first dibs on it though I doubt he is going to let that thing go....

I would not mind having a mog and then set it up to run like 100 mph, that would be friggin scary.... But no way would I go on a tight 45 degree turn in one of those at that speed...

GOT BOULDER??????????
