I'll play devil's advocate and ask- other than cosmetically- how remarkable is it?

did you put solvent into the combustion domes while the head was upside down? No leaks, i suppose...

for less than half that price you can get great mustang head, but it's not made of metal smiley22

I'm saying if you're going to call it remarkable/excellent- it better be.
Just good looking don't cut it.

The leak test I suggested is the bare minimum.

Unless you're going to go all through it and check stuff out why not just offer it as a "core " head. Or offer it as "condition unknown- possibly rebuilt"( since you say it does look excellent).

the main reason the price may be that high is that its a part many restorers may want - how many classic mustand straight 6 heads have you seen? i searched ebay and other sights with no luck so i figure i may have a nice peice here.

i think it was actually rebiult because there seems to be no wear on any of the components - but there is no way i know for sure since i just "found" it

I think there were 4 flavors of the stright six that FOrd offered:
144, 170, 200 , 250 CI displacements- depending on what year.

POssibly the heads were different as well.

I found a company down in OZ that seems to know something about hopping up the L-6.

Possibly they whould have further info on identifying what you have- if you're curious.

most of those flavors were offerered for the falcon first and not many were carried long into the mustangs life. a 200cid (the same as our 3.3 liters) and a 260. The 200 was only around for one or two years as it was real unpopular. later models went to a 250 and 300.

thanks for that forum link
