Did some maintenance work to my pathy this weekend getting it ready for the run and also because I had to check everything over after sinking the truck in quicksand a few weeks ago.

Anyway, here is why quicksand sucks:

Here's my passenger side inner wheelbearing, which I got lucky and caught it before it seized up:

Yes, thats rust!

And heres my parking brake assembly after pulling the rear rotor off. Both sides were this bad:

Sand gets everywhere!

And I was wondering why the parking brake wasnt working very well! Eek

I just went through all that stuff last weekend and did the fronts on the R50 Firday. I don't want to do it again.

Is that the bearing from the front or rear?

The bearing is from the front. It is the passenger side inner bearing.

Cleaning the parking brake wasnt too bad. I just got the garden hose out and hosed it down with a jet nozzle. After that, used a screwdriver to scrape the stubborn stuff off and then hosed down again. I didnt even bother taking the brake apart. It cleaned up pretty well.

Pfffft.... I see nothing wrong with that front bearing. Wink

You shoulda just sprayed some brake cleaner on it and some wd40. Woulda been fine Razz

That rear parking brake looks awesome, haha. Since I did my front locker yesterday, I took the time to repack all my bearings too. After the chivo falls water crossings, there was a little bit of water in there... but not much.

I think the spindle on the passenger side of mine needs to be replaced. The seal surface on the spindle is pitted really bad, so I think stuff is getting by there.

Whats funny is that the driver's side had no trace of water or sand in it at all. Even the area just inside the locking hub on the passenger side looked clean. I'm glad i went ahead and pulled the bearings out to inspect them.. I almost just put it back together after pulling the locking hub off and not seeing anything.

Sweet.. I'll take one.

I dont need it before the run. For the run I should be fine (new bearings and grease and all that).

The only thing I'm wondering is if its the same as my '74 chevy K5 spindles.

What are the spindles off of?

Should work. Need to see if the bearings are the same between them. Mine uses a Set 35 and Set 37 for outer and inner respectively. Do you by chance remember what the waggy uses?

Unfortunately no, I don't remember. Andy would probably know better. We have the same axles.

The dana K5 44 is identical to a waggy axle AFIk.The guy I bought my axle from said he ordered all standard GM 1/2 ton replacement parts.

Where in the world did you find a driver drop K5?

I'm running an early bronco low pinion Dana 44 center section with Chevy K5 outers. Basically, everything inside the balljoints is Ford, and everything outside the balljoints is Chevy.

Where the Ford and Chevy parts touch, I get something like dissimilar metal corrosion combined with a warping of the space-time continuum. Like rusty black holes. Those two aren't supposed to go together. Wink
