OK she was cruising down the highway, girlfriend slowed down because of a cop, hit the clutch to down shift into 4th and bang motor stops. Truck has 230,000 miles on it so lots of slop in the system. The belt never broke and the came stayed in sync with one another. Do you think I go away with it?

The book calls or the tensioner stud to be replaced during the timing job. Chances are the stud never has been replaced.

As fare as the engine goes. The Vg30 is a strong engine. I would do a correct timing job along with a tune up and be done with it.

Suspension is easy to replace.

Yeah I forgot to mention the truck is an 87 so it is the very early VG30E. Unfortunately alldata made no mentions of the tensioner nor the stud so I am crossing my fingers now.

alldata

alldata is a good general technical info program/ website. For more advance troubleshooting reefer to the FSM. Haynes and Chilton usually have good troubleshooting sections.

If the engine just stopped for no reason it's either the dizy, fuel, timing job. The VG30I timing job is only good for 60K not a 100K like the vg30E.

Nah it stopped 100% from the busted tensioner stud. I just took the pieces out of the block the other day. Really now I am just wondering, from others past experience, what are my chances the engine being interference made it through the ordeal. I really won't know much until the correct tensioner stud comes in the last once Nissan came up with was 1/3 the size of what I needed. Roll Eyes

You should be fine. Only time you have to worry is when the belt snaps. usually when the belt snaps it will bend the cams or crank shaft causing the engine to be worthless.

If the belt is fine and nothing els was thrown around the engine is fine.

you probably bent a valve, i would undo the cam towers and do a leak down test or do the timing belt job and see how it runs. usually when you bust a belt you bend valves and in the worse case, bend valves and punch some holes in pistons.

Yeah it's a vg30i. I am still waiting on Nissan to get the right stud to me so I can at least fire up the motor and see how bad it is.

The one dealership has ordered the exact number 2 times and each time it comes up the wrong size. I have now gone to a second dealership to try it but I doubt they are getting it from a different source. Are you 100% sure these on the websites are the correct piece? As in have you ordered from them before?

I order from Nissanparts.cc regularly. Almost monthly. Like I said I have never bothered replacing the stud. I have a spare in my spare engine. I can measure for You. Maybe order from Nutty.com or boltdepot.com I order bolts from them when OEM is too expensive.

I have a 1990, and courtesy sent one that was way too big. Must have been a change in stud size between 1987 and 1990, or it's for something else. The parts blow-up showed them on the same "plane" but I did'nt see any other place to put this other stud.

Nope same stud from 1984 Z up to about 2002. Maybe the 2002+ is bigger.

I found a different part number by searching differently.

13073-V5001 $1.50 online.
