Hello all!

Can anyone please tell me where to set my timing at? I dont have the sticker on my hood anymore to tell me where to set it at Confused

I just did a complete tune up and I just need to set the timing. Right now its reading at about 22 just past the 20deg mark.

I did some reading on my Haynes manual and all it tells me is I need to unplug a vacuum hose before I set the timing?

Any help or suggestion guys?

Thanks

Profile says he's got a '93 Pathfinder.
The VG30 in my '87 Pathfinder says to set it at 12 degrees BTDC. Don't know anything about the vac advance, though.

12deg btc at idle is correct i think. I disconnected the wire Haynes points to, but it didn't make a difference at idle.

Do the marks even go up to 22? Razz

Thanks for the reply guys.Sorry forgot to mention that I have a 93 VG30E.

Can you guys please give me the procedure on how to set the timing the right way coz looking at my haynes manual its for a KA24E

Do I put it on Drive while somebodys stepping on the brake then adjust it like that?

Theres 4 marks on my crank pulley and right now when I checked it with the vehicle in park it reads just a bit over the 2nd mark.

92path, when you said at idle Im a bit confused on that...Could you please explain it more in details?

After setting the timing where is my RPM supposed to be? 800?

Thanks guys

There's actually seven or so marks on your crank pulley. The furthest one to the left is zero degrees, the next one (clockwise) is five, then ten, fifteen, and so on.

Nah, you do it in park with the engine warmed up.
I think autos idle @ 800rmp and 5-speeds @ 1100, IIRC.
Even if you did the plugs, wires, cap and rotor, you prolly don't need to adjust timing unless you loosened the 10mm adjustment bolt on the bottom of the distributor.

Thanks for the reply big. Im only seeing four marks right now when I have my timing gun to it and like I mentioned that its just past the second mark a little so that means im on 6 or 7 deg?

When its on park it idles at 800 and when in drive with the brakes on it drops to about 500.

I have not touched the 10MM bolt.

Its just weird because before I did my tune up I can start the pathy in the morning at 20 deg out and drive off without warming it up for a long time and it runs just fine. Now that I did the tune up when I get in the pathy in the morning about the same temp outside and If i dont warm it up for atleast 5 mins and drive off itll start sputtering and acts like its going to die and it seems that its suckin up gas even worse after I did the tune up.

You really need to clean your pulley and find all those marks before you adjust anything or else you could be way off. Try looking from under the truck.

Are you sure you gapped the plugs correctly before intalling them (you said your hood sticker was gone)? That might cause your sputtering problem. I've also heared these motors run better with NGK spark plugs. That's what I'm getting next time.

Yeah, NGK's are right fine, they are the plugs the Pathy was made for. The only other ones I've ever (and am using) used are Silverstones from Nology Th'aint cheap but they will make a noticable difference in performance, a small one but noticable nonetheless. I've been using mine for like 3 years, just checking the gap when I remember to.

The Nology plugs have zero, thats right, ZERO, resistance so no power is lost when firing. You may notice some interferance in the radio but not enough to bother about, Its not on every station or even all the time.
