New member....
I have an 86 KC ST with the autohubs. I had loose wheel bearings...so I got into the hubs and found that the right side had some worn parts. Hubs work OK right now...though I do have a very loose needle bearing on the right side. So instead of sinking $$ into hubs with over 200K miles on them...I've decided to take the general advice I've seen and go with Warn manuals. Best price I've found is $163 for the premium set. This includes....Stud Kit Part Number [38003] Questions: is this kit the 12 bolts that hold the hubs on? Is this a good price? Are there any other parts needed to change these in? thanks 1986 720 Z24i KC ST 5 spd 4X4 |

$163 is the best I've found for the 6 bolt...26 spline WARN hubs.
Can find Superwinch for around $120. Wondering if these are as good? The later.... 86 1/2 on... WARN hubs are around $80. 1986 720 Z24i KC ST 5 spd 4X4 |

not sure if they are the right spline but there was a set of mile marker hubs on ebay for 45$ new, buy it now.

Oh, and the studs should come with hubs, you shouldnt have to pay extra for em. i advise taking the warn stud kit and throwing it the garbage. find a normal bolt that will fit.

BTW anyone trying to sell you these seperately is ripping you off, do not do business with them. Theu suck beyone belief. Goto Mcmaster-carr and scroll down to fasteners adn select "socket head cap screws" what you want are the blue metric class 12.9 cap screws, its got a whole long list of selections for you to choose from. You have to buy a box of 50 but it'll be cheaper to your door than having to drill out a broken stud (which you will have to do if you use the Warn studs) Class 12.9 is aircraft quality, you probably aren't strong enough to break one of these w/out using a breaker bar, the allen wrench will break before the bolt does! One other thing to do would be to hunt around for a set of Nissan manual hubs, not easy to find and there is competition (OffroadX and I) for them. Keep your old auto hubs as trail spares just in case... Piscator, 95 Pathfinder Celer. Silens. Mortalis. |

I bought the SuperWinch hubs. Notice that they supply fully threaded studs that are sloppy in the hub holes...so I can see what the issue is.
I'll be looking for some high grade screws with some shoulder on them. Guessing that when replacing the autohubs...that you have to leave the inner parts of these hubs that are behind the axle snap ring in there to act as spacers? I won't be using lockers of any type...and I usually drive EASY...except for when the going gets rough. It's for these times that I bought the new hubs. 1986 720 Z24i KC ST 5 spd 4X4 |

You keep nothing of the auto hubs when swapping to manuals, other than the snap ring.

When I was still IFS, I was snapping bolts on my Warns every time I went wheeling (I had already replaced the grade 5 studs--after breaking 4 of them on each side!--w/grade 10.9 bolts). Good thing, never broke a lockout! The bolts would fuse off first! Sucked having to take out the remnants of the old bolts though. The Nissan lockouts, the fastener is MUCH stronger, but ovaled the lockout instead (along w/flatteing a ball in the halfshaft CV, and taking out out a shaft bushing!). That's when I went solid (planned to anyway, and this carnage just pushed it ahead, alomg with many other issues: It was time to scrap, or re-build bagger and stranger, I chose the latter

Well...I'll more or less be running a stock truck with a 4 banger...I'm hoping that some upgraded studs will get it thru the bad places...or are these the fun places?
I don't go looking for trouble...it's just that following trails on the maps tends to lead to a lot of go/no spots. I hate to backtrack a lot. Looking like I might want to put in some new axles..... |

I was on 33x10.50/15, locked in the rear, winch in the front, and beat the piss out of my truck! If all you're doing is "casual" medium to easy trail riding, I'd look for stock hubs. Fasteners will never break, and the stresses I put mine thru, you're not, so you wouldn't oval them either. Mild wheeling even takes out the bolts on the Warns. The lockouts are great, just the fastening system sucks.

Looking for better bolts at Mcmaster-carr but can't find much better than the black oxide 12.9 bolts that came with the Superwinch hubs.
Might be able to cut the M8 40mm 12.9 partially threaded blue-coated bolts down to 30 mm...which is the length I need. Noticed that even the shouldered original Nissan bolts are a little sloppy in the OEM autohub and the Superwinch hubs....better fit than the threaded bolts though. 1986 720 Z24i KC ST 5 spd 4X4 |
