I just put in a new alternator. I'm now hearing a "whirring" sound but can't pinpint the location. Any ideas? Belt tensioner bearing?

It's almost time for a new timing belt anyway.

Probably the new alternator.

OK...pulled the new alt and it is the culprit of the sound. Could I have tightened the belt too much? What is the correct belt tension?

Thanks

if the alt was a rebuilt one take it back and get a different one. A tight belt doesn't make any noise. If you over tighten a belt it just put excessive strain on the pulleys. The belt still doesn't make any noise.

Reman parts are often a crapshoot. Sounds to me like you got one with a bad bearing. It happens.

Yeah, I took it back, no problems. No more noise, just my other problems now (see "Help again").

Thanks
