I've got a '95 Quest and it shifts out of first late, like at 4,000 rpm, and then is shifts slowly and lately it has stopped shifting into OD. I flushed the trans, by pulling the cooler line and then topping it back off (about 6 qts). The fluid was real brown and ugly. I'm thinking that it has never been flushed and/or the filter changed.
So, IF the filter is old, will I gain anything by changing it? |

The filter in these trannies is just a metal screen strainer and they are cleanable/reusable Really wont make any difference if you change it. I'd pull the pan and at least make sure there are no chunks in there. Clean off the strainer best you can.
Sounds like the tranny may be on its way out though. |

Saveable? Probably. Might need a rebuild though, if you consider that 'saveable'. I'd give it a proper flush first, but it sounds like solenoid problems. If you're lucky they're just gunked up and need a good cleaning. Take it to a shop and have them do a flush- somewhere under $100 last time I looked.

I'll second that. They can do a flush and see if a solenoid needs replacement.Just make sure that you go to a reputable place. Stop Suburbanization.Fill your yard with old, rusty trucks and DO YOUR PART!! |
