Hello my friends, My 93 d21 4 cyl has my mechanic and myself stumped. My mechanic has checked for vacuum leaks, checked all sensors and the fuel injectors for pulse width and they are all within specs. From stone cold, the truck will start ok with a little flipping of the throttle and will idle all day. When you shut the engine off it won't start unless the fuel pump relay is UNPLUGGED (to clear the fuel from the cylinders) then before the fuel in the lines empties, if I run to the front and plug the fuel pump relay back in it will keep running. This thing is JUST DUMPING FUEL into the engine. Does anyone have any idea what is wrong?

Thank you all for your kind attention!

With best wishes,

Steve

SmileWelcome to the board, Steve.

For whatever reason, the "return line" to the tank is not taking the excess gas. I would assume( key word Confused) that when gas in the fuel rail reaches a certain threshold pressure, that excess fuel is routed back to the tank. Maybe that's not happening and why it's running rich.

Thank you for the welcome aboard. I will look into that return line, as well. With no repair manual and only after asking another Nissan owner on the street to pop his hood, I didn't realize (I certainly will now) that my truck is California emissions equipped. I replaced the original motor with a used New York motor (the original owner of the truck ran out of coolant on the freeway, another motorist stopped and they filled it up with cold water while hot and cracked the block) NOTE: When I bought the truck, the radiator petcock was open! That could be a good reason why it ran out of coolant! Anyway, to make what's getting to be a very long story short; the egt (exhaust gas temp sensor) seems to only be on Cali. vehicles but non Cali vehicles DO have a plug under the EGR valve, so install IS EASY, thank God! THE TRUCK NOW RUNS LIKE A SWISS WATCH! (I was wondering why I had an "extra" wiring harness laying on the engine!) Again, thank you for your kind attention!

With best wishes,

Steve
