So all day Saturday I busted my butt replacing my brakes, drums and rotors including re-packing my front bearings. Then Sunday my transmission decides to die Complain after only driving 1 mile from my house. So I was driving along at about 35 and all the sudden I hear a loud grinding noise. I instantly feel a heavy load on the engine so I slowed it down and pulled on to a side road. So at this point I can still accelerate slowly in first but it won’t shift. I then proceeded to make a u-turn to try making it back home. In the u-turn the transmission completely locks up. So at this point my I am stuck sideways on the road with my front right tire against the curb. Man was that awkward! Frown I hade to get under the vehicle and disconnect the rear drive shaft just so I could move it. So with this said does anyone have any ideas to what it could be?

That's sucks. It's not worth taking it apart unless you have a DD and lots of spare time. I'd buy a new one.

One thing I would like to point out is even in park it makes a swirling like grinding noise... Does this sound like maybe it could just be the torque converter?

It's not worth your time and money to get a rebuilt tranny. Just running the risk of the tranny not being rebuilt right is to much.

Look for a new or good used low miles tranny. A new tranny from Nissan is around $1500. a rebuilt tranny will run you around 1K. Might as well spend the extra money get buy a new one .

Ok I can get a used transmission with 35k to 45k miles on it for $750 including freight, it is one that it imported from Japan. They will also install it for $350 and include a 6 month warranty. I think this seems to be a good deal... What do you guys think?
