Try using another (newer) battery (not jump starting through your old battery). I bet your battery is toast. It doesn't have enough cold cranking amps to start the engine anymore (even though your lights are fine). P.S. Believe it or not the best batteries are available at.....WALMART! And only cost $60.00 for the best one.

Take care.

if you tried to jump it, and it didn't start, the batt isn't the problem. i bet it's the starter relay, you have an auto or manual trans?

That's funny. I understand if you try to jump it and it doesn't start it IS the battery.

Bets ON !

huh? have you ever worked on a car before? I don't even want to explain this to you, but I'll try. If my battery is dead in my car, I would get jumper cables and jump start it from another car, right? so what does this tell us? that if my car won't start, but it does start when I jump start it (using the electricy from the other car, hence the jumper cables) that my battery is dead. If jumping a car didn't work when the battery was dead, why would you have jumper cables?

get it now?

Yes, I agree with you. If the dead vehicle starts. However, eventually as a battery ages (you must know people who are driving around with 7+ year old batteries that were bought with a 4+ year guarantee and clearly don't owe us a nickel and served us very very well) will eventually simply die; not pass voltage (toast, nada, zip, gonzo) and the reason people have to buy a new battery and the 99 percent reason why so many classic cars have been crushed at auto wreckers over the last 70 years.

Thanks for carrying the cables though. They will work if there is any life in a battery.

Love and Peace to you and everyone in Greeley!

With best wishes,

Steve

I might drive out there and take you out for lunch!

well since his lights work, I imagine the battery isn't totally dead.
my pathfinder has a drain somewhere, and if I leave it for more than a month without starting it, the battery dies. zip, zilch, nada juice. no dome light, no door buzzer, nothing. Stick a set of cables on it, and I can jump it just fine with my honda. but whatever, think what you will and have fun with it.

Thanks. I have friends in Greeley. Good luck with your batteries. If they're more than 7 years old, giv'em a hug for me. Wink

A dear friend from the 70's (Thomas J.) grew up in Greeley. He was in his 50's back in the 70's when he lived around Western New York and I was just a kid that knew him. He moved to Florida and our group from the Bowling Alley lost touch with him. IF he is alive (I doubt it-he smoked like a chimney) he'd be well in his 80's now! He was the best. He drove a two tone Black over Silver 69 Cadillac Eldorado 500 cu in. beast that never (I mean NEVER) had any engine coolant in it but ran like a top! He cracked me up one day when he popped his glovebox door open and out fell $2,000.00 (yes, $2,000.00) in parking tickets (stacks) he had accumulated! He didn't give a damn and clearly no one else (government) didn't either!

Man, you are arrogant! That it's true that a 3-7 years old battery needs replacing, and could be dying/dead, the fact of the matter is, is that with the symptoms that he posted, is the Starter Relay! I've replaced 3 Starter Relays in mine in the past 5 years, and only 1 battery, and 1 alternator. It's just a Nissan quirk, and it's cheap and easy. Haven't you learned you replace cheap and easy, before big and expensive?
