I put a tire carrier on a 2007 Xterra Off-Road and put a tire pressure sensor in that tire---new tire, pressure sensor, and wheel, all Nissan. Drove many miles (maybe a couple of thousand) and then the Tire Monitor Lite came on solid with no buzzer.

I have a 2005-6 service manual and it says to pull the dash panel and replace the module for the keyless entry and tire monitor.

Took it to the dealer for repair and they reset each of the tire pressure sensors and the module. They replaced one failed pressure sensors. Told me that the module has a limit of four sensors so the Lite will come on when I rotate tires.

Now, several thousand miles later and without a tire rotation, the Lite is again on with no buzzer.

Does anybody know the theory of operation of this system. In a properly working system, does the sensor only transmit only when pressure is low, must the tire also be in motion, etc. Has there been any changes to the system between the 2005-6 years and 2007?

If no change, I still suspect the keyless entry/tire monitor module under the dash panel because there is no buzzer with the lite.

Any ideas, suggestions appreciated.

Mike

First of all welcome to the board. Second is don't trust the sensors. I've two vehicles with that stupid system on them '06 X and an 07 Armada. Neither one are correct or trustworthy. Go get a good tire gage and check them at every fill-up. Like he said altitude and a few degrees of air temp will trip the stupid light. My inlaws have an X that when they go to the city to get groceries their sensor starts buzzing. About 7000 foot elevation change for them.

if there is dirt or anything in the valve stem, it'll make the light come on, even if you're not losing pressure.. just kinda letting you know something a'int right...or you could have too much air in them...

On my Titan, I went to a bigger tire with thicker sidewalls and they call for 65lbs of pressure (as opposed to 35lbs stock) so my light is always on now since I'm over-inflated, according to the system... Roll Eyes
