86.5 Hardbody. The computer is throwing a code 13, cyl. head temp sensor. It looks like a real PITA getting the sensor out. Its buried beneath the timing belt covers. Has anyone had any luck taking the sensor out without removing the timing belt? Not that removing the belt is tough, I've replaced the belt several times, but I just replaced it about 10K miles ago and would really hate to take everything apart again just to get at this sensor.
Any help or advice is appreciated. Scott 86.5 HB SE-V6 KC 4x4 86.5 HB Longbed XE 91 Chevy 1500 Sport |

You'll have to take it all off.
Also the sub-harness should be replaced as these are notorious for corroding. You can by-pass the sensor all together and use a potentiometer. Aaron Crist '97 HB VG33ER Mesa, AZ |

Update: I was able to remove the cyl. head sensor without tearing into the timing belt. The A/C belt and idler pulley bracket have to be removed. I was able to use a 1/2" drive 3/4" socket with a universal joint to BARELY get to it. The socket was JUST long enough to reach the lock nut and I was able to break it free with a rachet. Once free I removed the universal and turned the socket by hand until it was out. Repeat steps in reverse to re-install.
You are correct about the sub harness. My local dealer wanted over $50 for the dumb thing. ABC Nissan will sell it to me for $31 and some change. My old harness will do for now but it will be replaced as soon as I can obtain a new one. What a relief, it being the busy holiday season and all, I really could not commit a whole day to a timing belt job, and im taking the truck up to the Bay Area for New Years--so it needed to be fixed ASAP.
