It's funny that you know how to spell it. I wouldn't know how since I wouldn't let that stuff near my shop. You build stuff like this and you better know what you're doing.
That vette runs 10.30s at 138, the bike runs 8.50s at 165 and the big block ran at the track once(blew the tires off past the 330ft, and I coasted past the 1000ft) and ran 11.45 at 119. I'll bet NASA uses the sh1t out of that stuff since it's better than mics. JIM |

A mic can't measure oil clearance in a torqued assembly.
Look, I'm sure you build fine engines. So do I. Maybe I am a bit "Old school" and have different opinions than you, but I do not believe that my advice was "wrong". I do, however, think YOU are wrong for trying to prove that I am some sort of idiot. I don't appreciate it. As long as you keep twisting the knife, I will continue to defend myself. What would you do if the circumstances were reversed? |

If I didn't know what I was talking about I would keep my pie hole shut. That's what I would do. But that's just me.
You sure can measure clearance in a torqued assembly. How do you think the rest of the free world puts motors together? First you place the bearings in the rods big end or in the mains saddle then you torque the cap down then measure the dia. Then you measure the journal that the rod or main will be going on or in and subtract one from the other ----BAM there's your clearance. There's a little more than that like checking out of round (something you can't do with plasti-gage) and a few other things.JIM |

I agree. That is how I was taught to calculate fit as well. Our only difference seems to be that I like to confirm my calculations and gain some assurance by using a bit of plastigage. It may be unnecessary, but I like being able to see proof that the oil clearance is what I anticipated. If I am having the shop match the crank (by grinding) to the bearings, Keith always shows me his notes. To prove his work, while I am standing there, he sometimes uses plastigage on one of the journals to illustrate the fit that he is describing. I have been dealing with Keith so long now that I trust his notes. Bottom line is; I agree with you. |
