Rockhopper gears are not noted for being accurate on their reduction ratio either. If they advertise 3.6:1, expect 3:1. They are also welded. That is the use some stock parts, and modify, weld/machine, rather than starting with a complete chuck of solid stock and machining from scratch. That said, I've never heard of a Rockhopper set breaking. Rockhopper has been "working" at this for our US TX10 cases for 5 years now! Calmini did it in 2 and they're available! I'm buying mine next Moab special.

I'd still pony up the cash for the Calmini gears to know you got something totally proven reliable.

Well, figure it this way. I talked back and forth with Rockhopper well over a year ago and they were "still in negotiations" over the distributorship agreement with AC. Even if they produce a set, ship them here, and sell through AC, will they be any less expensive? Probably not, and given the growing hordes of people not buying them from Calmini I do not see a run on either if an alternative becomes available.
The Calmini gears are great. They climb like a sonofabitch. They descend like a sonofabitch. If you want your truck to make people say "THAT Son of a Bitch!" when they see you driving over stuff easier and with less drama then BUY THE DAMN GEARS! Hehehehe! |

Yep. I guess what amuses me the most is that guys spend all this money on nets, accessories, lights, etc. when they should be saving up for lockers and gears. I'd take lockers and gears in an otherwise stock truck before I'd do anything else.
I do have an Xterra with stock gears.....NO, BAD ANDY...RESIST THE URGE! 1998 Frontier 4x4, 2002 Xterra 4x4, and Z28 street rocket Pass here and go on. You're on the road to heaven - Kerouac |

UN-BE-LIEVABLE. What else would you guys like us to make that you can't decide wheather you want or not? Gears cost money to make. When we amortize our tooling costs, then there will be some price reductions. As previously stated by Issac, (who by the way, understands the manfacturing processes involved) these are OEM quality (AGMA 8) U.S. made gears, NOT welded junk thats been ground down and sandblasted to look like a 1 piece part. If you want quality, we'll provide it. If you want cheap priced junk, look elsewhere. You guys seem like you'd rather just debate this crap online instead of wheel. By the way, some idiot was on here yesterday saying that we're not going to make these gears any longer. Where do you guys get this stuff? Are you bored? It is not true. It is true that these gears started slow, but the truth is that we're selling more overseas than here. What does that tell you? It tells me that foreign customers understand quality and demand. Every time we bring out a new part, no matter how cheap or expensive, you guys love to invent some issue or support some anti-CALMINI vaporware product line being produced out of a two car garage. Then you wonder why this market won't evolve. Be fair! Tell us what you want and stop playing everything against the middle. If you want a $1000.00 product for $600.00 you're driving the wrong brand of vehicle. It takes numbers, and right now Nissan doesn't have 'em. Plain and simple. As always, if you guys have questions or feedback, many here can tell you that I love to talk on the phone about what we make or what you might suggest we make. Call me. 800-345-3305.

Terrance.. purposeful misinformation is frowned upon.. Not a good thing to do, considering we as a site try to provide accurate information to our users. If you just made that up for the sake of stirring things up, I'm a little dissapointed.

I'd love a set of t-case gears, but they do cost quite a bit, and frankly, I have found little if any need for them yet with my automatic. WHEN the time comes that t-case gears are either a necessity or I can simply afford them comfortably, I absolutely will get them. For now though, I'm interested in traction aids and persuing that dream of an all-Nissan SFA. The SAS alone will likely cost me at least 4-sets-worth of t-case gears alone, but once its done and on 35s, I think the t-case gears will definitely become next on my list.

Terrance, shut the #$%& up before we lose a good aftermarket vendor......
Steve calm down. One guy said that, and if you read it, it was conjecture for sure. And to be honest, your marketing needs work. Is there still lockrights for the h233b advertised on your site? He does a have a point there. Spend more time on sites like this than some of the more poser friendly ones. We have a big run in Arizona every year with a good turnout of SOLELY hard core drivers with Nissans. I felt it was a missed opportunity that Calmini wasn't represented at all, even if it was some shirts and stuff. If you spent a fraction of what I have seen in person at a GOX event it would go a long way. Honestly how many of the fourty trucks there will ever buy stuff like gears? I have a few other ideas to push your products that are inexpensive as well, PM me if you want. It takes a bit more than a website to sell things that are expensive, there has to be a person who brings forth the value of what it is you are selling if the quality of the product is high like yours. Otherwise you fail in the price driven market. (this is what I do for a living...) I'd love to see you/your company/associate take advantage of this site to help drive home your value by posting a bit more often. My gosh it's free. As far as the gears, I bought a set, and thank you for making them. I hope you continue to provide all the R&D and the quality products for us. Please take the above as just the view of a custom manufacturing salesperson who really just wants you to succeed. And once again Terrance, shut the #$%& up. Meh. |
