Who is this Teerrance person? Never heard of him. Maybe you should ban him from the board. He just stirs things up and makes people mad.

Steve, Terence by no means represents the general user base here with his comments.

I too run the gears and have been an advocate of them ever since the install and the first trail run with them. If competition comes out, then may the best deal/quality win, but in the mean time, Calmini is the sole seller of gearing options for Nissans. The parts are high quality and to date I've read of no problems with them whatsoever.

Companies making parts don't do it out of the kindness of their hearts. They're businesses driven by profits. I'd honestly be surprised if Calmini has broken even on them yet with all the R&D and tooling required, yet they still sell them to us.

Terence, we've wheeled together and hung out, and I like you. But if you've got something to post about one of our vendors, make sure it's a fact before you spout off and speard misinformation.

True that. I must confess though that I bought probably the only set of second-hand Calmini Gears ever offered for sale. Come to think of it so was my steering kit!

I still say BUY THE DAMN GEARS! And quit bitchin'.

Ok, for the record, this is the exact quote from the thread in question "He sells so few, I think he plans on disscontinuing the gears when the stock is gone." Now, nowhere does it say, I know something about it, I just posted my gut feelings. I still don't believe the sas parts are comming out.

Stone, he probably does sell a lot to the GOX guys. Honestly I think a lot of people buy stuff just to say they have it... to look "hardcore". Look at how many people buy those stupid rear light "guards" that stick onto the lights with 3M tape or whatever. A lot of those same folks buy things like gears and lockers for the same reasons. Looks. Sure you can't see the gears, but they are internet goofs that can then put it in thier sig and when they go wheeling once a year they can rattle off all the cool stuff the local 4x4 shop installed for them even though they probably don't even know where the T-case is.

So as long as they have the money to throw around. Who cares if they actually use them, and I'm not saying anyone should. I sure as heck don't but I am amazed at how so many people overbuild thier trucks for the difficulty of trails they attempt.

I would buy gears if that was my priority but for now I don't have a grand laying around with nothing better to spend it on. So instead I'll just pound my ungeared, unlocked pathy through 4+ trails and have a dang good time doing it. Someday, I will have the money and I hope they are still an option, if not, oh well, I'll figure something out.

What is this?---

Every time we bring out a new part, no matter how cheap or expensive, you guys love to invent some issue or support some anti-CALMINI vaporware product line being produced out of a two car garage. Then you wonder why this market won't evolve. Be fair! Tell us what you want and stop playing everything against the middle. If you want a $1000.00 product for $600.00 you're driving the wrong brand of vehicle.

Who exactly is "you guys"? There is nothing wrong with speculation. People want competition because it is good for the consumer. Of course everybody wants to pay less and get more. If it won't happen, then don't be concerned. Let people discuss. It is a discussion board. No need to get pissed or bad mouth competitors products, just set the record straight.

Also, how is a driving a different vehicle going to get me $1000.00 products for $600.00. I'll take that discount, I drive a Ford for my daily driver, does that count? Maybe I can afford gears Wink.

This sh!t is soo funny. I rarely visit any board anymore and it's the same damn stuff over and over....I'm just wondering why we even have an aftermarket.

For all those that think nissan's stuff is too expensive: Do the rest of us a favor, sell your crap and go buy toy or jeep...PLEASE! I get sick of this. Oh and wait, here's the better part, if you can't afford to wheel and buy real parts for your truck you need to quit wheeling altogether. This isn't a cheap sport so get over it or get out.

Oh my Frown i feel responsible for all this discontent, because i started the thread. all i wanted to know is why AC advertises a product that they don't or can't deliver on. Smile

I applaud calmini for putting a product to market that was wanted and needed. that's the thing about capitalism. when there's a market, and a void, then its begging to be filled.

but i honestly figured the making of the gears would drive the desire for the product and make nissan an even bigger contender. kind of a 'build the mall, and the people will come' mentality. see i was thinking all nissan needs to be a serious player in the off road game is some serious off road equipment. but what do i know. that's why my rock crawler is my jeep, not my nissan Big Grin

anyway i still think the gears are too $. but mr kramer is right; drive something else if the price drives you.

i'm thinking that i'd buy the gears when they go on sale, but i just can't pay that high price for something that i can get by without. is there going to be a sale soon? 4th of july sale maybe? i suppose the wifey will spend the tax return if i don't, and she'll spend it on something stupid like 'house crap, or furniture crap, or retirement investment crap Roll Eyes haha

I don't really see them advertising anything. Sure there's a category there for them, which has been there since the new site launched, maybe in anticipation of one day being able to offer them, but it's not actually like there's an item shown with descriptions and pictures...it's just a category.

Orange, what does your ability to trash your truck over obstacles have to do with selling gears? Or the GOX people? You reaaaalllly need to get over your hatred for Xterras and their owners. Big Grin smiley6 Maybe you should just run with Pathfinders only. I see a ton of those with waag brushguards and spotless paint too. I don't think too many people are buying t case gears to be a poser. I don't really get your post, because you say those guys buy gears, but only to be posers? And if it was true, so what do you care, helps lower the price of things, and brings more products to market. As far as once a year goes.......hope to see you soon out on a run with SWANKy. Big Grin Maybe I can learn some tricks from you if I wheeled with you more than once a year. smiley4 (i'm just giving you crap mostly don't get all bent)

My point was Calmini missed an opportunity by not representing themselves at AZRUN 4. A harder run oriented group, mostly because the oldest Xterra is four and a half. Most people, including me, are still paying the bank. I think they would crap themselves if they watched any of John's videos. Anyway, a missed opportunity. We had people from Colorado, Texas, Georgia, Arizona, California. The best way to spread the word on products like this IMO. He of course, should promote himself at GOX, AZ Run and Gone.

Whatever, I have the gears. I needed them bad since I have the third pedal and I run with you crazy people. I appreciate that they exist, Steve has been great to me. If he sold ARB I would have bought that from him too. Rock on Steve.

Steve tried to be on the AZ Run, but with the Moab run, SEMA, and everything else in that short time window, he couldn't make it. I was talking to him about it up until 2-3 days before the run.

That said, the AZ run is just about the most hardcore Nissan run out there, however there's good competition with GONEMoab and some of the east coast runs.

Let's just put an end to all this whining before this turns into an all out pissng match between members and vendors. If anyone wants to bitch about a vendor, I challenge them to do better. Take personal beefs to the BBQ pit and keep the Aftermarket Corner up for what it was intended for - to talk about new products.

thanks guys.

But it would have been beneficial to have had some representation at AZIV, even if it wasnt Steve himself, not only for those who participated, but also for anyone else you would have seen Calmini products in John's vid (which he should market).

Calmini has a well earned reputation, and I'm sure if other companies see that Cal is interested in the Nissan market then there might be something to it, encouraging other fabricators to offer quality products. Obviously Nissan NA could get off their ass and do the same (e.g. TRD for Toyota), though there is Nismo, but that chit is expensive and primarily geared for the racing crowd.

Without support people will continue to buy Toys, and that just feeds the cycle; little demand for vehicles due to small aftermarket product availability = little aftermarket product development = little demand....
