those do look good. I didn't know Poly performance had them DOT rated? That's cool to know.
Greg About USA6x6, I wouldn't judge them until personally dealing with them, a lot of trash can be spread on the *wheeling web*... shortysoffroad@yahoo.com |

also on the DOT thing...I seriously doubt you'll EVER get pulled over for having bead locks...how many cops do you know that have a clue what they are...hell how many "wheelers" do you know have a clue what they are. Only someone that is "hardcore" or reads a lot is gonna know

They look like the *street locks* all the other show trucks anyhow...I've never heard of anyone getting pulled over for them.

Yeah you may not get pulled over for them, but beware if you get into a serious accident with them on.
Could someone explain exactly how a bead lock works? And how would I go about adding your beadlocks to my rims? |

There are several types of beadlocks:
1) Hummer Run Flat Bead Locks: Locks the both beads to the rim from the INSIDE via a Kevlar wheel 2) Outer bead lock, track use: Used in early wheeling applications, but found to be too unreliable for our application, this style of bead lock actually uses screws that screw right into the bead itself. Leakage common, as the screws often stretch in their holes, causing a leak. 3) Outer Bead Lock Ring, Street, Track, Strip, some wheeling: Similar to above, but has a ring that attaches to the wheel. The bolts screw through to another ring. The tightened rings clench against bead, preventing the bead from moving. Some leakage is still possible IF the bead trys to move, though less likely. 4) Inner and Outer Bead Lock Rings: Similar to above, times 2. 5) Street Legal DOT approved bead lock: The most widely accepted DOT approved beadlock is of a similar design to that as described for the Hummer beadlocks. The main difference being that they are not of a run flat design. 6) Ring type Street Legal bead locks: Some are in the process of getting DOT approval. Bolts must be able to never need tightening once tightened, and the bead cannot be in danger of ripping under extreme torque. These are the biggest reasons bead locks are not approved by the DOT. 7) Street Locks: Look like ring type bead locks, but the only real benefit of such a wheel is extra wheel protection, and extra bead protection. Still better than the average wheel. Isaac 1993 Nissan Hardbody 4-cyl 4x4 SAS & dual cases 1/2 complete! I'm definitely not endorsing street use for them. I will post some pictures about the install and with the tire on and mounted. The outer ring clamps the tire bead to the inner ring and prevents it from moving.

mine don't quite mount like that. Instead of welding to the outer lip, the inner ring is recessed to the inside of the lip so it's pretty much self-centering. Other than that, that's pretty much it. I use bolts..not nutserts, can't stand the things.

The ring is actually sitting INSIDE the outerlip of the wheel..I just welded it up and ground it smooth shortysoffroad@yahoo.com |

I wanna see the welded in part. The pic with the ring on a wheel, is not the "recessed ring" that you are describing, or is it?

it is.....It's already welded and I ground it out smooth to make it look like one piece...I'll get a pic of the ring sitting inside un-welded on one of the rims on my truck.
