Hi Yall I am new to this forum so a brief intro I have an '88 pathy with a 3"bl 1.5" suspension many many home brew mods including my roof being cutoff my rear hatch bieng hinged now into a tail gate inset led taillights etc. However I am now shopping around for tires and am on a budget.
My question is has any one used hitech retreads (I think they are now treadwright) and do you like them I read a JP mag article about them and they seemed to like them and hell at 65 dollars a piece can you really go wrong?. Any info is greatly appreciated thanks yall.
Von Aschen yes my truck caught on fire before if you must ask!

I have used one in the past as a spare, and I didnt have any issues with it, but I was nervous driving on it.

I cant get over the psychological factor so I cant recommend them, but the tire did fine.

one of the nissan members in jacksonville, irishsaint, had them and had a terrible time with them. he had 2 failures.

i cant get past the thought of it like revans said and knowing someone who had such bad luck with them, i dont think i would run them if you gave them to me. MAYBE id run them as trail only tires(if they were given to me) but id still be worried about them crapping out. i wouldnt use them on the road at all.

Let me clarify a bit,

Now that I trailer the truck many places i would use them as trail tires, like TJL said. I didnt have ANY issues with the tire at all.

that said, I would not feel comfortable driving at highway speeds with them. For your application, I think youll be just fine.

I wouldnt run a re-tread, personally.

Here in the southwest, tire failures occur due to the extreme heat killing the sidewalls of the tires. A retread would have me a bit worried and concerned, since brand new tires only last around 3-4 years here anyway before they must be replaced due to the rubber dryrotting and whatnot.
