I am going to run these tires and wheels until I determine what my next step is. My tires are wimpy 3x10.50 "C" rated Dunlop Rovers. They will be good enough until I know where I am going.

I am NOT to run 32s until I regear. I have been there and liked the tires, but did not like the loss in power. 4 cyl suffers with over size tires.

Did you swap both axles, or just the front? Are the front and rear geared the same? What ratio?

Sorry for all the questions.

4.56 front (TrueTrac limited slip)...
4.62 rear (Detroit)

According to everthing I was told, I have 4.62 in the rear. That's what the tag on the door panel said. The builder called Nissan and they said trust the tag on the door.

Did NOT want to make any expensive mistakes so I geared to match the rear and will re-gear later.

Next phase will to upgrade both front and rear to 5.12 or greater with a manual locker in the front and maybe rear. I did NOT like my options at this time.

Re-gearing D44 is not expensive and I knew i would be back in the diff when I lock it.

Gears ratio for larger tires. I have a chart from an old 4Wheeler Parts magazine that i use all the time.

Stock out the door I had 29" tires with 4.62
(RPMs at 65 miles was 3434).

Need to know your RPMs at stock; then as you upgade tires see what gears are needed to maintain the same RPMs at stock.

29" with 4.56 = 3434 rpms (base line)

32" with 4.56 = 3112 rpms
32" with 4.88 = 3331 rpms
32" with 5.12 = 3501 rpms (Here is it???)
33" with 4.56 = 3018 rpms (unacceptable)
33" with 5.12 = 3395 rpms (acceptable)

35" with 5.12 = 3201 rpms (unacceptable??)
37" with 5.12 = 3028 rpms (really bad)

35" with 5.39 = 3357 rpms (acceptable)

The lowest gears you can get for your Nissan rear are 5.14, I believe. You can also get 5.13 for a D44 for a near perfect match. That should turn 32's or 33's without any difficulty.

Simple formula for those without my neat chart.

New tire size / old tire size = % of change
% of change * current gear ratio = new gear ratio.

33 / 29 = 1.14 (% of change)
1.14 * 4.62 = 5.27 (new gear ratio)

It does very well. In low range it's like adding another gear.

I just deal w/the power loss. I like my 33's and 4.37 stock gears. That's why I'm going 38's w/my 5.14 gears after the SAS (aill be started on the shortly, 1st weekend in July if all goes well).

Back to original topic: count me in for a complete set for a V6 Fronty if it were ever to happen.

On another topic: I received a reply from Liam at Rockhopper in Australia about their t-case gearsets. He replied that they are in negotiations with AC to begin supplying to the US. All I can say is SWEET.

...soon to be 4x4!

Andy, I realized after digging a bit that this was talked about A LONG time ago. Geeze. I'll e-mail them back and just ask how much it will cost me to send them some Austrailian money to pay for the gears and get them direct. Apparently their negotiations are 'stalled'. Thanks for the kind tip.
