Yes, modified CV's. There was shop in Denver that did it, and they told me how, but I forget. They had done a 4 inch torsion crank on a Hardbody and it worked.

Z axles are an old sandrail trick that hold up well as long as your trailing arms aren't too long (3x3 etc...).

Funny this post just came up because my friend just bought a nice rail this week and it has z axles. Looks stout!

Phil knows how to do it.... got a spare set of front axles sitting in his gagage too.... we'll try it and see how it turns out (machining of the CV joints). I looked at them and decided it'd be easy to get another 3-5 degrees out of the CV.

Cool, Be sure to let us know when you're ready and if you'll be wanting us to supply the axles. Meanwhile, I'll start hunting for a pair of servicable ones Smile

Don't forget those skids though... gotta have skids!

There's no way to go 4" above stock. They might have gotten 4" from below stock, but I see people running up hills where their front suspension is fully extended, and still there's no binding. I'm talkign about (w)D21s BTW, D22 is a different story.

edit: but if you wanted to I guess you could cut the metal thing that the bump stops are attached to and get as much travel as you wanted. Then combine lift arms plus some BJ spacers and use some grade 8 stuff...maybe that's not such a good idea Smile

stock CVs can go to about 20* or so I think.

Yep, 4 inches. There is a picture of it in an old Four Wheeler magazine. They used ball joint spacers that looked to be 1.5-2 inches, and of course the modified axles. I can't see the boots lasting long at that angle either.

Would have had to have had a diff drop and probably custom LCAs to go with it.

I'm researching solutions for the steering on my '95 HB. Does L&P have a website that works? The link in the first post in this thread is dead.

If not, info on the steering solution you touted in that post?
