I have been lurking for a couple weeks. Asked a few questions and been very happy with the quick knowledgable responses. This is my first nissan truck and needed T.L.C when i got it about a month ago. Still could use some. But its getting there. My biggest problem is for some reason people keep trying to buy it and the offers get bigger every time.
Its an 87 king cab 4x4, 2.4L, 5spd, with 250xxxkm on it. Now sitting on 31's.
This is how it was when i got it a month ago

This is it now

I thought it was odd considering i go on local 4wheelin sites and everyone told me not to get it that i should have gotten a toyota. But yet lotsa interest in it.
I havn't been able to test it out much yet. Went up in the mountains here last week and it did good till i burried the front end in waist deep hard packed snow. Until that point it did awesome and no one had even been on that trail since all the fresh snow fell.
Im usually a GM guy and it definately beats the he11 out of my s15 jimmy 4x4.

Took the nissan out wheeling today, just hit some trails in the mountains again.
I love this truck, it goes almost anywhere. Big Grin
Even when i thought i was pushing the limits or even when i thought i was stuck for sure it made it through on its own power not even any shoveling.
Sure kicks sideways in the snow though. Cool

The 4 bangers a are very light and fun. Everyone likes Toyota because of the known after maret.

In the past few years Nissan after market industry has really picked up.

I can deal with less aftermarket when i can buy the truck for about half of the cost of a equivalant toyota in my area.
Im not doing any hardcore stuff so i think the ifs will work without doing an sas. So far no breakage. Smile

If thats all you use the truck for a LSD out back or a locker will you any where you'll want to go. You should ever need any other upgrades.

What about locking the front? Is it needed or is there any lockers available?

There is an arb air locker and a LSD made for the R180 installed in your truck. If all you ever plan is light wheeling you will never need a traction aid up front. A set of Nissan manual locking hubs should be good enough.

I already have the manual hubs. I will be looking into rear diff upgrades once i get all the little maintenance things taken care of that the previous owner neglected.
Is there any advantage to removing the front sway bar on these trucks?

Yeah you get a slight advantage. Worth it though.

Upgraded steering is nice. If you lock the front diff you'll want steering.

I had a 91 extended cab in a 2x4 for 7 years. About 1994 Nissan came out with an upgraded timing belt guide replacement and after that instal it was mechanicly the best truck I've ever owned, but like yours had a serious case of body cancer. One thing to watch for though is that even with regular oil changes the inside of the engine really built up sludge and carbon, I pulled the oil pan about every year and used Mobil-1 to keep it under control. Best of luck with it.
