Can someone explain how this is done or point me to a write up on this. I've search but had no luck. I know you add disc to the limited slip but as far as anything else thats involved I'm not real clear. Thanks for any help.

There's no was to make a LSD into a locker. You can add a disc or two to tighten up the LSD. However it will open back up.
If you have a LSD in your diff it is a cheap way to add a ton of traction. 1995 KC XE-V6 4x4. |

He's right; an LSD is not a locker, but a well-adjusted locker is a huge help. I have them front and rear and it is a very formidable setup, especiially in mud.
Do the extra disc if yours is weak. |

I added the extra disks to my LSD... that thing is effin tight. It drags a tire in every turn, and I have noticed tire wear.
This is a good "band aid" until I can afford an ARB, but there's other stuff in line first ----------------------------- My myspace page. TUPPERWARE!!!! "Never argue with an idiot, they will just drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience." |

I had my LSD packed to the point of a spool. It won't release even if I lift a tire. My tires are paying for it around corners though. |

Exactly. It is kinda sad, actually, ----------------------------- My myspace page. TUPPERWARE!!!! "Never argue with an idiot, they will just drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience." |

Let me clarify things. If you tighten up the lsd to the point where it no longer opens up. The diff no longer is a LSD or a locker.
It would fall in line with a welded diff, which is neither a locker or a LSD. Keep in mind having both tires spinning at the same rate around turns is very bad. You are putting yourself in danger and other drivers on the road. I would be most concerned about the extreme tire wear associated with welded or spooled diffs. Off-road tires are not cheap. On a different note. If the vehicle is off road only, spooled or welded is completely fine. 1995 KC XE-V6 4x4. |

When an ARB is locked, it's also a spool, and both wheels spin at the same rate, unlike a mechanical locker like a Detroit that does allow one wheel to spin faster than the one under power, but not slower.

When under power the Detroit is locked, just like a spool or an engaged ARB. If I give my truck any throttle while turning on the asphalt I will spin the inner tire (at the same speed as the outer).

ARB is a pneumatic operated locker, Selectable locker as they call it. Detroit is a mechanically operated locker. Both operate in the same manner when locked up.
Out in the field neither the ARB or the Detroit spin each wheel at the same exact RPM's like a spool does. Next time you see a rig at max throttle powering up a hill watch his front wheels. Sometimes I notice one tire is not spinning as fast as the other. If you got a spool or welded diff, both tires are spinning at the same rpm's all the time no matter what. You also have the electric and cable operated lockers. I'm not a fan of these but when engaged they work the same as arb,Detroit. 1995 KC XE-V6 4x4. |
