Since everything goes in Skidplate Alley and I cannot find a better place to post this...

I need a coating for the inside of my battery box. I have one coast of rustoleum down, but that isn't going to cut it if battery corrosion hits the surface. I was going to roll rhino liner in the area, but after Brent's trouble with the liner on his trailer I am leary.

Ideas?

Below is an unfinished picture, but you get the idea of the size and material I wll be coating.

Can you just find a plastic liner about the right size? That way you can throw it out and get a new one if it gets damaged rather than try to repair your coating.

I used something like this on the aircraft. Seems to work well enough but it does need to be touched up over time.

A dedicated "battery box"- they're just slightly larger than a batt.

Or use undercoating.

My straps are right up to the battery and a box will not fit. That aircraft coating looks like the trick and at $15 what a deal!

If you want the aircraft stuff, I know this is a good company to order from. Ive bought a few things from them before and school spends thousands with them all the time.

Seems like regular paint when you put it on, but its less suceptable to battery acid. Pretty standard on all the planes at school. It must work because we charge and re-charge those batteries over and over and they are always spewing shit, and there is never any corrosion in the boxes.

Fiberglass. Good ol' fiberglass cloth and polyester resin. I think a single layer of cloth or thin matting would do the job. It's not like you need to add strength.

It would create a form-fitted resin liner.

I repaired a battery tray in my wife's van that way years ago.

It's a fine line between clever and stupid.

I have three batteries in the back of my truck which would be over $500 in optimas...not in the budget right now when $40 in paint will fix the job. Also, the optimas don't have the power ratings I want if I am to spend $150-$200 per battery. Must because it is sealed doesn't mean there won't be corrosion on the poles that can fall off. There is always a possibility of corrosion with a battery around.

I've never seen an optima leak. It's a Gel Cell and it's not sealed.

In Arizona it's a waste of money to buy anything other than an Optima.

As for coating, I'd use POR-15. It will stand up to just about anything. However anything you use will wear through under the batteries due to the vibration. I don't think it's possible to clamp them down tight enough to keep them from wearing through the coating.
