BFGs AREN'T bad tires.. They are pretty decent and will work well for pretty much anything you'll get into. I know 98XE4x4 has absolutely tortured his set and they ahve been great. *Any* tire will have sidewall issues if you arent careful.. but consider this... My current set of Uniroyal M/Ts have 2 ply street tire sidewalls.. and I havent had any problems, even with all the wheeling I've done. Just get whatever you can afford. *Anything* is better than street tread. Even BFG A/Ts are great on the rocks.

The BFG's that won all the comps were the Krawler's, not the K/M's. There is a rather big difference in sidewall stregnth of those 2 tires,

the reason i asked was because i need to find a set that is less than 36" for comps this summer. which means i can't afford to be blowing sidewalls on the rocks. i'll spend the extra if it means i wont blow one and the difference in place finishing...if i could run my xmls i wouldn't have to worry about this since they have fat sidewalls

Hey Zeeto, get a set of "carve your own" Krawlers from BFG. They will be 35x13.50x15.

Kinetic was right. BFG muds are crap, but Krawlers are cool as fawk. It wasn't BFG M/T's that won, it was Krawlers.

wtf is that? they just send you a krawler shell and you carve your own tread, from their compound? that's what i got from it...and yeah if the 35's are available and i can afford them i'll have them, or even 37s if they'll fit the rules, but i've heard 300 per tire initially. also that the price will go down after a bit to around 190-215, hopefully that will be before summer

Not true...they didn't start giving them away to all of the competitors until half-way through the season. The KM's won the first two events at least. It looks like there is a 1 ply difference between the KM's and the Krawler...my bad there...but the point is, the real rockcrawlers don't use MTR's either...that's why Goodyear (and RCAA) is having to force competitors run their crappy ass tires to compete on their circuit next year.

Dog on the Goodyear MTR's if you like, but I've seen both used extensively in the AZ rocks and the MTR's are a better choice than the BFG KM's. That's not to say the BFG's are bad tires, and since they are cheaper, it's a pretty good toss up argument for each.

Well, I like my tires Big Grin

I was on a dirt orad this afternoon and tried to turn around...I dropped my front driver's side down in the ditch on the side(it was on;t about 3" deep at that point) and it sank down to the hub in silt. 4wd, no spinning, I was out Big Grin

Since this has turned into a tire thread, has anyone see the new Xterrain that is coming out. Supposed to be a really sticky compound for rockcrawling and such.

Good point, maybe BFG's just do better here on the Farmington sandstone, I've never wheeled in AZ. Cost bedamned, it's still a toss-up.

There are alot of sharp rocks here in AZ. I know that MTR's are what people run on their DD/Rock rigs. Generally people stay away from BFG's (unless they are krawlers.. Adam's got them on his buggy).

2001 frontier, Xterrains are crap. They are just all terrains with a funky name. Sorry. Smile

Actually, you are full of crap Mikey. smiley6 I am not talking about Xterrains. I am talking about the new version they are going to be making that will be sold in limited quantities in large sizes like 35s and 37s. There was an article on them some were.

Oh, so ProCrap is making something worth running on trails. I find that hard to believe. Isn't Nissan Mike still running those 31" tall "33x12.50x15" ProCrap M/T's?

Show me these "new, improved, 2ply Xterrains". There's a reason no one runs anything from ProCrap...
