Yes it fits!!!!

Ironically thats exactly what I just did. Put a 2003 pumpkin in my 92 pathy. Fits perfect. Just use a 31 spline carrier. I first used a 94 open, with lock right. I now have a 91 LSD.

I also used the 91s discs on my 92. I love this plug and play stuff.

Only difference is I lost my ABS sensor.

more pix here.

sweeeeet! so your tellin me that the ring gear bolts are the same? did you have to re-shim to get correct backlash and side to side play after swapping the 92 carrier into the 03 pumpkin?

92 pathy- 3 link front, long arm rear, front EB 44 with ox locker and full chromo shafts, rear with full carrier detroit. 4.88/4.9 gears front and back. Currently on 35's.

You don't have shims on the Nissan 3rds (and most 3rds THANK GAWD) Instead there are screw devices that screw into each carrier bearing and then are locked with a bolt in tab. When you remove the carrier you will ALWAYS have to reset the proper backlash and carrier preload.

Check out the threads with the caps off:

thats fawking awesome! thank god for smart engineering. rebuilding the r180 and r200 in my 240z was a chore but this looks like a walk in the park.

What Keith said.

I put some dimples on the rings to reference original placement. But checked the Backlash as well.

I reused the 2003 bearings on my 91 carrier because they were in perfect condition. I never took apart my original 92 pumpkin. Its my spare if needed.

This may help.

Okay, got the 3rd in yesterday, i got it for 250 bucks and its in perfect shape.... answer me this... is it possible to swap in a 31 spline locker into a 33 spline carrier? or did they change the carrier too? Im hoping the only difference is the 2 33 spline side gears. These are the lockers i was looking at http://www.4x4parts.com/public_html/shop/index.php3?pag...0f0830beffacef81c9a9 , minus the h190 one in there.

I never tried. The new detroit is a complete relpacement, so that would work. I just used an old 31 spline carrier.

yea cause my old 31 carrier is lsd, and i cant really afford the detroit. if i was to get that, i might as well get an arb to match my front ox. i think im gonna bite the bullet and try the later 31 spline lockrite.

No, you can't put the 31-spline locker into a 33-spline carrier. The 33-spline open carrier is a 1-piece 2-pinion unit, the locker needs a 2-piece 4-pinion unit. I looked into it a while back when my friend got his Lockright and I had a spare 33-spline diff.

When did you last check your spare tire's pressure?

In this case you probably could drop in a lock right. A Detroit would defiantly drop in.

OnlyoneDR, found a early 99 fronty third with 31 spline shafts to drop his Detroit in.

As far as I know, all 33-spline open diffs are the 2-pinion 1-piece carrier.
If that is indeed a 33-spline unit, count the teeth on the face of one of the side gears. The one-piece carrier version has a different tooth count than the 31-spline diffs which is why the Lockright wouldn't work in them even if it could otherwise be put between the side gears somehow.
