My sliders also clamp on.. If done correctly and with enough precision, they work VERY well. I've wheeled hard enough with them and have dropped the truck over a foot onto rocks with them. no problem. Smile Its all in the quality of construction.

Weld on is much easier. but the biggest advantage to bolt on is if you plan on a bodylift or altering the bodyheight later.. mcuh easier to remove and fit different ones.

Mine took 2 days to make and even though they are a clamp on style, they are VERY sturdy.

Cool. One last question. If I go this route, do I want the bolts that go through the clamps to be right up against the frame, or should there be space in between the frame and bolt? My main concern with welding them on is melting a hole in the frame. Isn't it a lot thinner than the 1/4" plates I would be welding on would be?

With Johns, he put the rear mount on the frame where it curves up. Therfore they cannot slide.

Mine started out life as a clamp on style like John's but we just welded them instead because the bolts interfered with fuel lines on my Frontier (they're the old ones off McFly's Pathfinder.)

Wait a minute. Mine will have the same problem! I also just realized I would have to do some fab work on my skids to do it this way. That would mean removing the heavy SOBs! Screw that. I am going to quit being a wuss and weld them on! Welder

The fuel line problem is easily fixed.. just unscrew the mounting block from the frame and pull them away from the frame slightly. Then when you bolt the sliders on, place the mounting block so that it keeps the lines off the bolt. It works pretty well.

But, welding is way easier. Smile
