if it were me i would do about anything i could to keep it nissan. maybe a 3.0 or my dream a 3.5.. I really dont get why people bother swapping in say a 4.3 s-10 motor into a nissan, do yourself a favor, skip the swap and just go get a s-10 cause thats really all it's going to be afterwards... Like Datz's patrol, if i remember right it isnt even on a nissan frame, so basicly it's a bronco with a nissan body, however badass that rig is it's still just a ford with a nissan body.. i'm not trying to start anything here, i'm just throwing out another opinion.. big grin Oh and isnt it pretty much impossible to leave the stock engine in? isnt it pretty much impossible to get parts for it?

nope, its a full nissan frame.. even has the original patrol springs under it. razz I wouldnt want one with a bronco frame.. it wouldnt be right. The only thing that isnt nissan is the driveline. I will tell you this.. there is NOTHING wrong with 300ftlb of torque. That truck would smoke those 36" swampers if you wanted it to.

Honestly, I'm GLAD it doesnt have the nissan drivetrain. one less thing to worry about.. Finding parts for a Patrol engine/drivetrain is next to impossible.

Oh, a Nissan freak eh? I take it you have the money to spend $550 on a set of gears for ONE axle, and $200 on the install kit for that SINGLE set eh? Well me personally, I'll take my Toyota axles and their $160/set INCLUDING install kit. And parts? Well, for my Toy axles, I can find ANYTHING! Chromoly shafts, full floater kits, axle guards, you name it, it's there. It will always be on a Nissan frame. Who really cares what parts you put on it? Your tires aren't Nissan... Same for about 90% of the vehicle. I'm willing to bet more than 75% of the parts on your vehicle are DOMESTIC.

I'll bet you buy bolt on lift kits don't you?

Some Unibody Cherokkees, and Comanches had Dana 44's under them as well (forgot years, would have to check on a Jeep Forum. 4x4wire.com is a good one. They won't flame you because you drive a rice burner!)(5 on 5.5" bolt pattern), as well as the narrow track Waggy. They're both about 58" wide. The early Bronco front Dana 44 is about 56" wide (rear 9" 55" wide) The Waggy Front axle is about 60.5" wide (rear 59" wide)(6 on 5.5" bolt pattern). The Nissan H233B rear is 59" wide. '85 and earlier 'Yota axles are 55" rear, 56" front respectively. '86 to whenever (unsure on when) 'Yota rears are 58" wide. Ford 8.8 is 58" wide (5 on 5.5" bolt pattern). I think that's it.

For the patrol, you can actually get away with fullsize axles. its a WIDE truck. quite a bit wider than my Pathy. The EB axles are really *almost* too narrow for it without using reverse offset wheels. With the right offset wheels, it works well, but with the 15x7's on there now, the rear tires rub the frame badly when flexed.

I'm looking for some full size axles for mine. Would also help out on sidehills, etc.

I really only have a problem with engine swaps and still calling it a nissan. IMO the engine basicly is the vehicle. i dont have a problem with swapping axles, like i said it's mainly the engine. i'd like to have my 4x4 SAS's sometime. if you take a nice hardbody and put a s-10 motor in it then your nissan is no better than that crap s-10 you pulled it out of. you might as well have just traded the nissan for a s-10. Swapping a v-8 in is different but i still dont really agree with it. would i like to have the v-8 power and torqe in my truck? HELL YES, would i do it? hell no.. i'd go buy a ford or chevy and be like every other redneck you see with a jacked up american truck that barely runs yet is somehow superior to my jap truck. ok. lemme digress. hell, lemme stop this rant here..

Careful there, you are treading on thin water here in the hardcore section of the board. I've got a friend with a Jeep Liberty with a tube frame, and 1/2 a Liberty grill. Is it still a Jeep? Yes. Does it have the Liberty motor? Sorta. Not really though. Does it have the Liberty tcase? No. Is it still a Jeep? Yes. Would the same be applicable for a Nissan? Yes. If Nissan didn't make such piece of crap engines, transmissions, and tcases, I wouldn't have this problem... But since they DO make crap, I and every other smart person here will swap out their crap for something that's worth using.

Nissans have crap engines? Let's see the 4.3 that runs trouble free for 250k miles. I beg to differ. Nissan makes underpowered engines, maybe, but they're certainly not crap. Tcases are also plenty strong too; they're just not geared low enough. I've never heard of a Nissan case going bad.

Trannys on the other hand....

who cares what you drive, im so sick of this arguement. you should be building up the best, most capable rig you can. I choose my toyota, not because everyone had it and it was teh cool thing, but because I knew there were parts out there for it. Can you change the tcase gears? No, but my 4.7s are in the mail and for only $360. Can you lock and change the ratio of both f/r axles for about $600? No, not even if you lincoln locked both. Just changing the ratio in the rear costs $650. I plan on swapping in a 4.3 or supra motor, depending on funds, but I'll still a yota. Basically you want something cool and out of the ordinary build yourself a tubed buggy from scratch...

Supra engines are I6, aren't they? Seems the engine bay might come up short too.
