Today over lunch I'm takin the passenger side knuckle and pitman arm to 4wheelers to get them machined. Smile

Major things I gotta do:

- finish putting the passenger side of the axle together
- finish welding up trac bar mount and crossmember
- have adapter made to use Jeep or GM CV driveshaft.
- Install RSX9000 shocks (I have them)
- order steering parts & histeer arm
- order brake lines

Just thought I'd let you guys know. I miss my Pathy. Frown

Most excellent! Any driveshaft shop can build you a driveline to fit your setup. Can't wait to get out and wheel with ya. I'm on hold now with anymore sheep upgrades until I can sell a few cars. Smile

I talked to mikey last night.. he said he might be able to machine me an adapter so I can use an existing shaft of some sort w/o a custom flange. Driveshaft shops dont like Nissan flanges, since apparently bolt patterns other than Jeep confuse them. lol So, if I can adapt to a commonly available driveshaft configuration, it will save some headaches.

Well, I thought work was going to resume...

Went to 4Wheelers Supply and they wanted $600 to machine the knuckle and tap the pitman arm. Confused They said they normally just weld the high steer arm to the knuckle. The guy looked at me like I was an idiot when I told him I wanted it drilled and tapped for a standard stud mounted hi-steer arm.. He said "And you are driving this on the street?" I told him I wanted to be able to change out the arm if the one I am using doesnt work out and I need to change the geometry.. He said something to the effect of "Why would you experiment with your steering?" DOes he even realize that all Chevy K5's had a bolt-on steering arm?

That tells me that they obviously dont want to do it.

That's really odd. They did my pitman arm and gusseted the hell out of it for about $150....an extra $450 to drill 4 holes is nutty.

Did you go back to the fab shop and ask them (the building on the west side of the parking lot?) The guys in the main store don't know their asses from holes in the ground about anything that's not a Jeep.

I went directly to the fab shop and asked them. THey had a couple half-finished buggies in there and were crankin away on them. My guess is that they just didnt want to do the work. They claimed that they didnt have any information on the hi-steer bolt pattern for the flattop knuckle either and that I would have to supply the dimensions. It seems odd to me that a 4wd fabrication shop wouldnt have that info or any jigs set up to do that machining, since its a very common practice on flattop knuckles.

Its funny, the guy asked me right away specifically if it was for a Nissan too... so I dunno if mabye that had something to do with it. Confused

Datz, did you try a 1310 driveshaft out of a hardbody? I have one and it was the right length on my truck (you may be a bit higher and farther forward though). If nothing else, its something you could get lengthened, which should be easier than making an adapter. Its nonCV, but you might be able to get away without it.

Datz--they just didn't want to do it. If they don't want your business they'll never get mine. Any competent machinist can do what you need to have done. Just draw him the specs and they usually charge by the hour.

I had actually found a person or two in the valley to do it for John, he should still have the info for them. If not, I'll find 'em again =)
