Ahh, but Im not done posting photos...
We werent bored.. Heres the main thing we were workin on: New custom crossmember under the engine. Here it is test fit before we fit the brackets and drill holes so it can be unbolted: If you thought the previous clearances were tight.. there's less than 1/2" all around the crossmember.. from the oilpan, trac bar, diff cover, and where the drag link will sit: Crossmember to diff: Crossmember to trac bar: Another shot of the crossmember to diff: |

That Miller Lite box lent itself to some beerbox prototyping. Thats how I do all my brackets and doohickeys with the plasma cutter. The trac bar bracket gusset was courtesy of Miller Lite.

It'll be a little on the heavy side...
The way I look at it.. I removed a lot of sprung weight when I pulled the IFS off. The old diff was pretty heavy. THe new steel probably weighs about the same as the old diff did. We'll see how it works on the road. Should drive nicely. |

Wow, the driveshaft is gonna be right where that crossover pipe is....where will you relocate that to?

I have a plan for that.. its going to be sectioned and moved upwards between the oilpan and tranny. Should be plenty of room for it there.

I might fabricate the complicated parts of the exhaust this weekend as well, since I wont have my knuckle or histeer stuff yet. It'll be cheaper to fabricate it all myself, plus all the pipes need to be cleaned and ceramic coated.

John, the laCK of clearances around the diff etc.,, I assume, that's at "full stuff", so to speak?

yep.. that is at full compression when the shocks bottom out.
Coincidentally, full compression puts the frontend at stock ride height up front. |

just 1200F ceramic paint. Did it on the 510's exhaust and it hasnt chipped or peeled in 3 years.
Or for about $60, I could take all the exhaust parts to Jet hot here in Phoenix. They do killer professional ceramic coating. My main thing is that I just want to get the exhaust cleaned up. It is caked with baked on mud, so might be difficult to remove and work with. If I can get all the mud off, I'll be able to cut and reweld it to clear the driveshaft, at which point it'll need a coating of some sort. |

After I get the parts back from Parts Mike, I'll need brake lines and steering linkage, which is about another $300. After that, it'll be driveable.
I'll need to regear the rear axle, build a driveshaft, and put in some taller rear springs before I can wheel it. It'll be driveable this month, hopefully. I hope to have it at the New Year's Eve shindig |

Here are some pics of the finished crossmember. Just need to weld it into the truck. The combined flange and crossmember steel is around 1/2" thick.
This is about as high precision as you can get with garage engineering.. |
