I'm wanting some more input on using a 96+ auto transmission and t-case on my 93 Pathfinder which is an automatic and 2wd.

What kind of problems would I run into? Would I have to repin my auto tranny ECU to work with it?

I don't think anybody has every done this. To be honest I think it would be way easier to use everything from an older truck.

Do you have the pin layout for 96+? I think I have everything for the WD21s.

I'm sure I can pull up the schematics for my Pathfinder once I find my All-Data CD, but for the 96+, that's a no-go for me.

Keith still has his tranny and T-case sitting out back from doing his manual swap so that's why I'm asking this question.

you will have to shorten the d-line unless you get that also. or you can take the tailshaft housing off the 93 tranny and put it on the 96 tranny after taking off the t/case. I have access to a 96 D21 FSM if you want one I will give you the link. I'm sure there will be different connections between the 2 because 96 was the 1st year for OBDII.

A 96 D21 is nothing like a 96 pathfinder (R50). I doubt the FSM would be very usefull.

there will be no problems doing this as the R50 VG33 has the SAME tranny (auto) as WD21s and the same T-case. a WD21 driveshaft will have to be used, though.

From what looking I did on the FSM the WD21 electronic tranny and R50 (and all other electronic autos on V6s) have the same electronic controls, that plug should match no problem. All other electrical connections are either external and swapable or on the T-case which is the same.

I have a WD21 manual on my R50 and I am glad, 1st gear is .5 lower.

even if pin layout is not the same, they have the 100% same identical internal solinoid controls, the pins can be swaped around inside the connector, no reason the connectors would not be the same, though.

Cuong take a picture of your tranny connector and I will take a picture of mine.

Hmm, ok, I thought the R50 tranny was different.

there is major no difference in R50s' drivetrains (with VG33) and any other vehicle that has the VG33 except we have a high pinion front diff and shorter front cv axles (but the outers and inners are the same as frontiers). As stated earlier I have a WD21 5spd and t-case in my R50. The VQ35 is another story (2001 and up).

Now Nissan has different part numbers for R50 trannies, but side by side they are identical parts.

Is there a difference between the 2wd and 4wd autos in R50s?

I can look at my neighbors 2wd R50 and compare to mine. But my 93d21 and 96r50 appear to have identical trans/tcase combos. I have removed both personally. Wink

Only visible difference is 96 has crank pos sensor on housing.

i believe with the automatic you can get the intermediate piece and the t-case to go on a 2wd auto and it should work. The manual 2wd rear section and 4wd rear section includes the shift forks, it is more of an ordeal to make work.

So where are the plugs and which plugs do you want pictures of? Ecu side or tranny side? I'm not too sure how many electrical plugs there are on the tranny.
