X-mas came early. SAS in work.
Picked up the axles and delivered them for R&P install. Here are the axles sitting in the yard as found Now there sitting in the trailer for delivery. Axles sitting in the shop for gear set-up. To AFAIK the axles are off a 78 waggy. Axle specs- Front axle. The long shafts are chrome mally with HD spicer u-joints. Posi-trac, highsteer, high top knuckles. Warn regular locking hubs. Rotors good, calipers good, pads good. Rear axle- posi-trac, needs parking brake guts and cable. All brake stuff needs replacing. New Gears ordered from completeoffroad.com Value gear 5.38. The gear tec said they were re-box yukon sets. Shoed me a yukon set and my set side by side. Indeed they had the exact same markings. Yukon master install kit. They did not list the brand name online. 1995 KC XE-V6 4x4. |

Happy Earl E Giftmas! If you are going to go spring over leaf springs, you are in good shape! Although you may need to move the perches at least the steering is already good to go!

I like the front, but check that waggy rear. If it's that old, isn't it an AMC20 rear, or is it a D44?
Also, check to ensure that rear axle has the diff centered. Some wags used a slighly offset rear diff - that might cause some driveline vibration problems for you if so. FSJ guys say if they are both orig out of a 78 Waggy they are both d44 both others say not so.
Sure fire way to tell....AMC 20 will have a 12 bolt cover where as the D44 will have a 10. Either way NICE Find and merry xmas. Its looking like a d44....if it is congrats.... |

Here is a close up pic of the rear axle. Clearly a Dana 44. I went to www.partsamerica.com and typed in 78 jeed waggy. I looked up the rear diff gasket. Only gasket they list is for a d44.

My best guess is that the front is not a 78 waggy axle because a 78 is a passenger side drop. If it's from a waggy it's a 80 or newer.

My 77 Cherokee has D44's front and rear. passanger front. rear is also offset to the passanger side. from the looks of it, the rears are offset to clear the gizz tank.
my 74 rear D60 from a J20 is also offset. unno nice find none the less 87 truggy |

Just check the rear 44, that it has 1 piece axle shafts. Jeep loved to put two pieces in. If you do find a two piece, get new shafts. other then that, nice find

Looking at lockers... Whats the difference between Detroit locker and the Detroit E-Z locker.

by the looks of it, the original detroit replaces your entire diff wheras the ez locker just goes inside the side to replace the spiders and stuff. it looks a lot like to lockright if you ask me.

The 2 piece shafts were in the AMC axle. D44s are single piece.

The EZ locker is basically the same thing as a lock-right. It only replaces the spider gears.
The original Detroit replaces the entire carrier. I've run both the Detroit and a lock-right in the rear of my truck. The Detroit is much quieter with only an occasional clunk. Detroits were also used in the axles from the OEM's so you know they're built to last. The lunchbox lockers work, but I don't think they'll last as long. IMO the full Detroit just works better, especially on the street. Brent 1972 K5 Blazer |

thanks reddog. The Detroit no-spin currently in my truck is a pleasure to have. Due to the experience I have with a Detroit locker, I will not be purchasing anything els.
I have 2 d44 axles to lock-up. It's going to be a while before I can afford the full detroit. 1995 KC XE-V6 4x4. |

I've run both and I'll never run a lock-right style again. I did buy a new detroit for the 14 bolt though
