that's a neat trick. You just use a "dolly" or is there a special flange dolly that does a beter job?

When I trimmed, I left extra for the flange. I then cut it to form tabs that I could bend with a small hand flanger and a crescent wrench. The seams are trimmed using the appropriate right or left-hand snips and the tabs masaged to a tight fit.

There are other methods, but this is quick, easy and good enough for most car shows if it is finished properly.

Here are some pics. At this point, they are ready for welding and blending.

Today I swapped out the brake master cylinder. That went well.
I went on to sand until my hands were numb. I got everything but the tailgate and the new panels.

Next came a coat of primer over the sanded areas. I still have a lot of fill and prep work, but at least now I have a foundation to work from. It is easier to see irregularities when the surface is consistent.

I got lucky that the rain held off as much as it did. I made it to my milestone for this extended weekend. Smile

It isn't welded on yet. I only fitted it this weekend. I will attack that project next weekend. I won't have my gauges, but I can go ahead and set up the plate.

I got a pair from curriekid3. They are in great condition. I am going to wait until I paint the truck to put them on. That way, if I slip with the sander or get some primer on the old ones, no biggie. Wink

Shouldn't you be washing your undercarriage with a toothbrush instead of heckling the Reverend?

The metamorhpasis should be complete in a few more weekends.
Next weekend I plan to make the gauge mount, cut the opening in the hood and weld the scoop in place. I also plan to be done with bondo and spot putty.

Two weekends from now I hope to do a final primer/sealer, wet sand and paint the entire truck white. I will have the bed off for this step.

Three weekends from now, I plan to do the graphic flames and clearcoat. I am considering clear coating the flames only. The pure white areas will be more easily repaired without clear coat.

Anyway, that's the plan.

Dam! that sounds like a nice paint job. I guess I won't be lighting mashmellows on your hood when we are on AZ8

Today's progress:

Cut the opening for the gauge plate.

Here you can see the gauge bracket. I was trimming the support structure to allow for a P-seal when I get the right stuff. I thought I had some, but it was the wrong type.

The filler panel drilled and plug welded to the bracket. The gauge bracket will attach to this eventually.

Intake hole cut and the edge flanged for strength and to keep crud from falling on the engine.

Modifying the air cleaner.

Here it is in place. After final fitting, I will finish the edge of the pipe, smooth the welds and paint it.

Plenty of clearance to allow for engine movement.

The scoop welded in place, ready for filler.

I'd still put some sort of cover over that intake tube to keep water out when it splashes back on the windshield. Otherwise, good stuff there!
