Just need to finish up a few small things. I'll post some pics up later this week.

I do have a question. I did the SUA with the shackles in the rear. The problem I'm having is a swimming effect on the front end when I hit a bump. The sway bar helps some but not enough. The shackles are two piece right now. I was thinking of welding them together like an "H" to stiffen them up. Anyone else have any other ideas to get rid of the side to side motion?

Thanks!

you might want to throw in a traction bar.

a traction bar wouldnt do anything a traction bar helps with axle wrap a trac bar is what controls side to side motion on a link or radius arm setup

and with a leaf setup you shouldnt have any side to side motion.....

That side to side is mostly "Bump Steer" and yes a proper track bar that is parallel to the drag link will eliminate that, on the down side it will hurt you offroad and shorten the life of your leafs.
If your shackles are super long, like over 5-6", then welding in a H will help a bit, but dont expect anything great.

Are you using the using calmini hangers in the back?

What sway bar? stock or waggy? The waggy one is softer than stock.

The stock waggy springs dont have much arch and are VERY soft. I would reccomend the rancho 44044s. They give a nice soft ride and just enough lift. Still need front and rear sway bars on a pathy.

I agree...sounds more like a steering linkage issue.

I had the bumpsteer too until I swapped in a flat top knuckle and histeer arm on the passenger side. It makes the draglink almost parallel with the tierod, and handling improved dramatically.

Barry, they are not the Calmini hangers, just a generic two piece type.

The sway bar is out of a waggy.

I had the waggy springs and they were too soft so I got the Rancho 44044's. They helped a little. I don't have the sway bar on in the rear. It's been off for 7 years now.

So you think the steering is causing the side to side motion? It seems like the shackles are shifting to me. I'm going to try and weld them together this week and see if it helps.

2000 Xterra.

Yeah, they were flat with the weight of the truck on them. Almost had a negative arch. It was really scary driving with them. The rancho springs helped some and the sway bar helped alot. Its just when I hit a pothole or bump in the road, it sways a little from side to side. I would imagine at high speeds it could cause an accident.

interesting...I have wag springs for my X too and will be doing the SAS later this year.

Was thinking about doing an AAL to them to stiffen them up. Sounds absolutely necessary now.

Sounds similar to my buddys SUA pathy. He had the rear sway bar off when we did the SAS. The front IFS was so solid he had no sway bars. After the SUA SAS, He could not drive it home with no sway bars. I put on the waggy one. It was still soft. It drove like you mentioned. Then he added the stock rear sway bar back.

Put your rear sway bar back on. I get rear sway on my truck. It never had a say bar stock like the d22s do.

I think I still have the pix of his SUA axle under my truck with new stock 7 leaf waggys. It was super low. (I had my axle out for the cut and turn) It was that day he ordered the ranchos.

Well I was holding off posting pics because I haven't really flexed it out yet. Plus I ahve the crappy street tires on right now.

Here's a few of the two day process.

Right before we started ripping it apart.

Pile of IFS.

Getting close.

Wow, look at all teh flex! Big Grin
