won't you have to extend the driveshaft anyway? essentially isn't it the same thing though? I understand that the length is the main unpgrade but I think the heims would make up for it due to the free misalignment. I dunno, correct me if i'm wrong

You don't have to extend the rear driveshaft with this mod unless you move the axle back quite a bit. I only moved mine back 1.5" and I don't plan to lengthen it.

Heims won't help. It's not the bushings that limit travel, it's the length of the upper links. Your upper link will be pointing straight down if one wheel droops far enough. If you have a 5"-7" lift your upper links will already be pointing close to straight down. This doesn't allow much more downward travel.

good call, my truck is only lifted about 3 inches right now, with the SAS I'm not sure how high it will be. I'll get creative when the time comes. thanks for the info

One other thing I thought of that you need to do because of the increased articulation... you need to notch the crossmember that sits just under the front of the driveshaft to prevent damage to the driveshaft. I need to cut mine out a litte more as its rubbing on the driveshaft a little at full droop.

I finally tied up all the loose ends on this install.

I did away with the limiting chains, they were too noisy and I was ripping links like crazy. I bought some EB 3.5" VR coils and tied them to the upper and lower seats, so they cannot fall out and they provide the limit of the axle.

I installed my Rancho 5012s today as well. I thought I would have to raise and center the upper mounts, but I have no clearance issues that I can tell. I will trail-test it soon though.

Drove it around and it feels so great! Especially after driving with no shocks for the last three months.

Good deal! On my limiting chains, I use bungees to pull the center of the chain forwards to keep it tight at all times. This quiets it down tremendously. The chains limit the absolute extremes of my articulation to prevent losing a coil spring, so they rarely ever are pulled tight by the axle.

What kinds of ideas do you have about just making the uppers longer? I have 7" of lift and that doesnt give me 4" of drop I guess. Can I see a pic of how you notched your cross-member, mine rubs but I dont knwo the best way to go about it.

Hey John,
Just a Quick couple o Q's. Sorry I know you've gottin bombarded with questions.

The superlift coils 5.5" and 3.5" are they the Bronco 66-79 coils?

I assume that the radius arms are bronco too?

And why did you use a Xterra pitman arm?

Yep, the Superlift coils are all for a 66-79 Baby Bronco.

The radius arms are for a '71 bronco. The F100 radius arms loook similar, but have a larger coil spring plate mounting hole spacing, so watch out for that if you are looking for radius arms. The bronco is ~1" between holes. The F100 is ~1.5 or 2".

The Xterra pitman arm was a spare donated by Desert Rat.. it just happened to fit, so I used it because Parts Mike reamed my pitman arm on the wrong side.

Sorry I missed this question.. You could make the upper arms longer if you wanted to. The only thing is that you need to retain decent anti-squat and keep the roll center high. Making the upper arms too long might hurt that depending on placement, since the lower arms are already at a very steep angle with that much lift.

Bronco Graveyard Springs
Thanks again John for the info. Im ordering my springs this week and just wanted to double check on the rear springs. The coil is huge and beefy, and I dont want to get the wrong one, the ones you ordered are (#13203) from the Bronco graveyard? See link above. Has anyone tried the super flex progressive rate coils? I need decent on road manners, especialy for doing drives like the one to Moab, but nice flex.
I guess its just the size of those coils that scares me.
Broncos are hard to find here in Canada, any reason not to go with f100 radius arms? besides the different mounting holes.
I have a sas leaf setup now, and Im busy making buckets and buying bits at a time for a coil setup, not overly happy with the leafs up front.

I am running 3" EB progressive rate coils in the rear of my pathy. I love the ride, it's a little on the stiff side, but I don't mind at all. I only notice it when going over speedbumps.
