I found a 1990 pathy that already has an SAS done on it. It was wrecked and the guy is going to buy back from the insurance company if someone else will buy it for parts. Here is the link.

Now then if I were to get this thing how hard would it be to swap the pathy parts to the Xterra? I'm not to fammiliar with the pathys so that's why I'm asking. Thanks for the help.

It'd be equally easy to accumulate an axle, etc yourself and start from scratch. Compare what you'd pay for the wreck against what you'd pay for the parts individually from salvage yards, etc and decide from there. Because the parts are already on a Pathfinder really doesn't make your job any easier. You still gotta hack off all the IFS stuff and fab up suspension mounts, etc. on your Xterra. That said, we haven't seen an SAS'd Xterra yet and we'd all sure like to.

I have to respectfully disagree with ya DR. I think I saw a post where he said 2500 for it. Anyone who has done this or is in the middle can tell you that I've got about 1000 just in my 44 and that is just in parts. Judging from this guys posts (I may be mistaken) I'd say he is going to have someone else have to do labor. Hell, he could probably part the rest out and make his money back. I would say (at least) it's worth taking a very close look.

You're right...price is the determining factor. I was more referring to the amount of work it would be.

I am going the slow route, collecting all the parts and paying off the X at the same time. Frown
This way I can play with mods to the IFS X while I get it all together. Yep, even building a good 44 can cost 1500 or so. Doubling any estimates is a good way to gauge the $..you will always spend more than ya think.
I guess it all comes down to how involved you want to be in the process- and how confident you are having others do the work for you.
I say start from scratch.

The guy said make an offer so I told him I'd give him 2 grand. That also includes all of the other spare parts. I can't SAS the frontier cause I don't have it anymore, traded it in for an F150 (needed something bigger). I noticed that in my sig too and have updated it since.

Anyways my main question is how similar are the old pathy and the Xterra. Could it be as easy as cutting off the X's IFS and putting these pathy SAS parts in thier place? Probally not but it's worth asking.

Oh yeah, I can cut everything off that needs to be but as far as putting it back together I'll leave that to a professional. I know a guy in town here that'll put it all back together for me for around a grand.

It might be easy to just swap the stuff over from the Pathy, but one thing to remember is.....I bought his d44 rear! So you will need another, or run the stock rear until you find another.

Just buy your own stuff. God knows what was damaged in that wreck.

To answer the question, "who knows what was damaged?", I do. Well, at least I know what I bought was not damaged, because the d44 was never installed! Smile But as far as the rest goes, it is true, you just can't tell until you take the stuff apart and inspect it.

Hold the phones!! You guys say who knows what is damaged? The same could be asked about used parts. I mean what about the truck that rear 44 was in before it was in his garage? Or buying parts from out of service trail rigs? I say check it out thoroughly, then make your decision.

A solid axle swap won't be easy, but I think by already having a lot of the parts off of a vehicle, it simplifies the process a bunch. Plus, I think the price is pretty good, and I know if you bought it just for the axles/suspension you could easily part out the rest for a pretty big profit.
