the donor jeep i am getting the front axle from has a rear one also. Is it a D44? should i swap out my rear axle for a D44? Is it good enough to put in the back and hold up good? i am gonna 4 link the rear so not worried about mounting. I want to keep the 6 lug, any suggestions?

I think the D44, D60, 9" and H233b has bin argued alot.
I believe that is a D44. But Id use a 9", because it uses a 3rd member and it will stand up to more punishment.
The D44 will do the job if, you are not going with larger than 33-35" tires, are not pumping more more thru it, and you are going to rock it hard.

There has been a lot of discussion about this in older posts. The general agreement is as 92PathSE stated, the H233 is stronger. The big downside for the H233 (if that is what you have) are the price for gears and the availability of spare parts. Keep in mind that not all D44s are created equal, some have thicker tubes than others and/or beefier pumpkins. If you go with a D44, you can upgrade to 33 spline shafts to make it closer to the H223. Superior was working on a 35 spline setup for the D44 and ARB even has a prototype locker for it but I have not heard anything recently.

The big plus is that the H233B isn't a C clip axle. When a shaft breaks on a D44, the wheel attempts to leave the vehicle. Not so on a 233B. If you have a locker, you're still 1 wheel drive with a 233B and you can get off the trail.

Yes it applies, the 9" does not have C clips.

A 9" and an H233B are of a very similar design. Both are semi floaters with a drop out 3rd. A D44 (or C200, a D35, Chevy 10 or 12 bolt, etc) is a C clip axle.

The zuzu D44 is not a C-clip, has disk brakes factory, can get any ratio or locker, it's six lug, and a perfect fit. Chug
