In my whiney Calmini thread Mark stated that he could build a heim setup like his for me. What are the pros and cons of a heim setup vs. what Calmini is going to be distributing at some point?

In my opinion it's tough to compare them. Your absolute best way to go would be 1 ton TREs from a chevy or ford at the end of either the SLR or Calmini System.

What I'm offering to build you is a solution that works, but let me tell you, the heims are high maintenence, loud, and must be "misaligned" almost perfectly to work correctly. Streetability would be poor compared to SLR or CALMINI but definatley doable. There is Zero tolerance with heims making the steering twitchy at higher speeds. Like a sportscar just without the handling of the suspension.

This heim solution is for mostly Trail Rigs in my opinion, not daily drivers. Your truck is newer and with other solutions around, I'd wait in all honesty.

Just as an FYI, since my pitman is already drilled for heim, the rest of my crossover setup on the SAS will be all heim. I personally believe in them and love the feel of absolute precision steering.

Tie rod ends give you better wear, they're self-adjusting so they don't get sloppy, and they flex farther than the typical heim. Plus, they're cheaper (i can get spare 3/4 tons spares for my setup at the yard for $2). The one advantage to heims is that you can space them up away from the arm, and build a second bracket to place them in double-shear. You can't space a tie rod end up, you're stuck with wherever the surface of the steering arm puts it.

I'll take TRE's. Stronger IMO. My steering has 3/4 ton TRE's (or is it 1 ton Zeeto?) and wherever I turn the wheel is where it goes. No play at all.. Kinda wierd compared to the IFS crap before...

I am going to wait for Calmini's stuff. It is going to be worth it, and I don't like the idea of replacing heims all the time. Thanks for the info guys. It sure is easy to learn about the more technical or 'hard core' mods on this board than any other Nissan board. I am sure it will be unless POR every creates a Nissan forum. big grin
