Well I got the new Yellow Top Optima and winch all installed. So I unspooled all of the wire, so I could respool it. I discovered a couple of minor kinks and splintering. The previous owner did not tae care of the line apparently. It was just spooled on there all crazy. So I tried to respool it, and it was a futile attempt. This all means I need a new line.

So I started looking online, and found a synthetic winch rope. It looks sweet, but costs $300. eek It is made by masterpull, and is called Superline. I can get a regular cable for $100 or less. Have any of you ever seen one of the lines in action? Do you think it is worth the extra $200?

where'd you look? check out rockstomper.com, he's got the best prices on them from what i've seen. With these lines if the line snaps it'll just fall to the ground instead of becoming a projectile. only thing is you need to get a firalead so you don't fray the line. i'm factoring a synthetic line into my winch cost...

synthetic winch lines are the way to go.. MUCH much safer. if they snap theres much less chance of doing damage or hurting someone.

Go to Spidertrax.com. They have the Masterpulls for less than 200. They also have an aluminum fairlead specifically for the masterpulls. I just kinked the crap out of my line so I may be getting one also.

Support the good guys. Buy from www.rockstomper.com. Don't buy from Masterpull. They have given Rockstomper nothing but crap for selling line cheaper than Masterpull. Also, there isn't anything different between the two. Go with Rockstomper. He's an awesome guy to deal with, and the customer service is excellent.

no they aren't...directly from Scott
quote:
I'm at least a little curious, because I've been fairly careful to avoid treading on Masterpull's toes (I think), avoid claiming that I have Masterpull rope, and to clarify that it's the same material, just not relabeled with the same name.......

....I told him directly, the most significant difference between his product and mine, was price, and that's been my main selling point to my customers........

....Masterpull uses AmSteel, just like we do. Different wholesalers, different colors of line, but the same material......

Ours is Amsteel Blue, which is the same stuff that Masterpull uses, just doesn't have the Masterpull name ('cause we went around them to the source, to get a better deal on it), plus we include the abrasion guard, and we pull the loop weave back about three times as far as Masterpull does (for less chance of the loop undoing itself, since this stuff isn't knotted or crimped).

enough? url to the post on por if you don't believe meSynthetic Line

hmm, I've heard some bad stuff about rockstomper's service, but I don't know first hand, haven't really researched it hardcore, just thought I'd let you know. Just search the POR board and decide for yourself, I guess.

Hmm.. Thanks for the link. Screw Masterpull. I will buy my line from Scott for sure. I am going to get one of those Spidertrax fairleads and a big a$$ hook too. Might buy one of his recovery kits while I am at it.

rockbuggysupply.com has composite winch fairleads, alan is another great guy to deal with, he organized a huge group buy on tcase gears for yota guys, it's how i save ~150 on mine big grin

quote:
rockbuggysupply will soon have synthetic winch fairleads that are better for your winch rope then aluminum .
this space age material is stronger than aluminum lighter and provides a natural lubrication for the rope .
the biggest benifit will be less wear on the winch rope

pricing will be around 40.00 dollars

One drawback to synthetic line is that it MAY melt if your winch brake overheats. At least that is Warn's concern.

Nothaving a winch, I haven't any first hand experience.
