I'm living in a crappy part of the world asfar axles are consurned. I can buy the Dana30 with everything i need of the suspension of the Grand Cherokee like coils/shocks, brakes, radius arms and steering stuff for $650. That seems to be expensive for a Dana30. I still need gears and manual hubs, and i'm forgetting that it has 5 lugs for now. Are there 6 lugs hubs available for this axle or have they be custom made??

OK, i have found a Grand Wagoneer Dana44 frontaxle big grin
I don't know the prize yet but i'm excited anyway. I know it's getting boring but i still have some questions, i don't know much about these axles.

The axle has autohubs, some kind of vacuum operated trouble. Can this be changed to manual hubs simply by mounting manual hubs? Or are there more difficulties to it.

The axle was recently rebuild BUT the Wagoneer is totally burned out. Could this have effected the axle? It's looks ok but the engine above it for instance is burned to ashes. Could the axle be warped or something?

The rest looks good, it has the leafpacks with seven leafs that i want to use and is 6 lugs. Know i come to think about it, i didn't notice if it had discbrakes or not.

i'm pretty sure you don't want vacuum operated hubs. they can be converted, although i'm not sure how personally.
what do you mean burned out? like the car was set on fire?

The truck was just resturated <<(spelling) and rebuild and for reasons unknown it burned down. Probably a short cicuit somewhere. The whole interior and the engine compartment burned down.

I don't think it's the right axle for me, apart from the vacuum stuff it also has drumbrakes. Oh well, up to the next one.

plus, and it might just be me, i wouldn't run springs that had been that close to blazing flames. it'd take a lot of heat to actually have them show damage, even though there could be...

You are right, i better skip the parts of this truck.

I may have found another axle though from a 77' Wagoneer with, discbrakes and calipers and manual hubs big grin big grin big grin big grin big grin Let's hope the prize is right. In all honesty, What is reasonable prize for such an axle?? It has to be rebuilt.

The Wagoneer this axle sits under has 3 leaf springpacks which is kind of odd i think, i only heard of the 5 and 7 springpacks. Are the 3 springpacks flexy kind of springs or should i keep searhing for the 7 leaf ones?

I wouldn't go over $300 for a Waggy axle.

The aviod the vacuum operated Waggy's. They have weak 2 piece axles and from what I have read are a real PITA to convert.

I defenatly don't want a vacuum Waggy axle, i'm leaving those where they are.

The 77' axle is in good condition according to the owner (a junkyard) but the prize is out of the sky also and again. $750 frown frown frown

It's going to be tuff to find the right and affordable Waggy axle, i pretty much contacted all the major yunkyards. Dana44's are hard to find.

I'm going to re-evaluate my budget and see what i can affort.

First I need a Waggy Dana44 with the discbrakes/calipers and manual hubs.

A ring and pinion set to match the front axle to the rear.

Stock Waggy 7 leafpacks.

A custom front driveshaft.

Steering linkage stuff.

Those are the basic things i need to SAS my truck. Let's see what it add's up to, if it's too much i rather trade my truck for a Landcruiser or Patrol. OHHH why do i like my pick-up so much???

win, how much do you think it would cost you to have a d44 shipped from over here? there's a boneyard near me that wants $90 per axle. I'd ask like $50 to pull the axle for you and box it up to ship, so $140 for the axle and whatever it costs to ship. Might be too much but I'm located on teh eastern coast of the US, in New York, and figure it might be worth a shot.

you could always make a square front shaft. it's what i'm doing. i'm not planning on driving mine on 4wd over 20 mph so i shouldn't have to deal with the vibrations...

Keep in mind that if you want a matching lug pattern, you gotta find additional parts too.

I think that a Wagoneer axle has the matching lugpattern, right? At least the ones i've seen were six lugs. A Wagoneer dana 44 would suit my needs perfectly.

Zeeto, that's an interesting idea. I live in Holland, near Rotterdam. I haven't got a clue what shipping would cost, it all depends on the weight and size. I think that shipping the axle would cost a fortune so maybe i'm better off finding one here. The parts i will need like ring&pinion "and stuff i'm forgetting right now because i'm exited" would be awesome if i could buy them that way. That would save me from bending over at the local 4wd shops.

I don't know if it would be too much trouble for you to find out what shipping would cost to say Rotterdam, i would appriciate it very much though.

Another reason I went Toyota:

Toyota axles have king pins. WAY stronger than the ball joints on a D44. A buddy of mine has about 1k miles on his ball joints on his D44 with 36" swampers and he already has to replace them.

Hey Zeeto, thanks but i don't think it is neccesary anymore. I practically bought the 77' axle for a little under $450. I know that's a lot of money but i have to face the fact that these axles are rare in this part of the world. I'm going to look at the axle next week to determine if in fact it's the one i need.

I did some investigating in the shipping cost of an axle too but i couln't even get to ship one.

Anyway, if all turns out well the gathering of parts has begun, big grinWOOOHOOOOO big grin cool big grin cool big grin cool razz razz
