So as I think I've mentioned before I'm looking at doing a KA24 sohc Z24 custom build. I want to supercharge it and have found an online shop that has rebuilt Magnus (Eaton) and PSE (not sure about them) for really good prices. I know there's no supercharger made for the KA so I'm trying to decide between using one made for the VG33 or one made for an SLK230 (2.3L) or one made for the Mini Cooper S (1.8L). No matter which route I go I'd have to get a custom adapter plate made for it so that is not so much of a problem. Also they're all the same price.

Question:
Which Eaton supercharger should I be looking into?

Choices:
Exterra/Frontier....3.3L
SLK230.................2.3L
Mini Cooper S........1.8L

IMO sticking to a SC that was originally used on an engine of similar dispacement is a good idea. I'm not to familiar w/ forced air but I would guess that you would have trouble keeping the boost from getting too high w/ a larger SC and I don't know if your injectors would keep up with all that air.

That's kinda what I was thinking and was mostly leaning towards the one for the SLK230.

just a thought, have you condisered finding a donor fronty with a vg33er? tho maybe more expensive, and more work w/ wireing that would give you loads more TQ...

I've thought about it, but the cost is really a big difference for me. I can pick up a soch KA for under 400 as I know a lot of people that drift 240s and they tend to do dohc, sr20, or ls1 swaps. Also I'm going to be running my old z24 head for higher compression, dual plugs, and I have a custom cam to help with the torque band. Plus putting together a custom motor combination will just be more fun. Yes more complicated but before it ever even sees the engine bay I'll get to know it inside and out and feel more accomplished.

I'm gonna try and stroke a vg33e and drop it into my 89 I'll call it a VG35i. but I'm nowhere near the doing stage yet...
good luck & have fun!

Yeah, I'm at that same point. Researching the best price on the Eaton/Magnus, but not even near that build. For the time being I'm just rebuilding the z24 as soon as I get the gasket set. Probably pick up a ka off a buddy in the next few months and swap that over complete to play with it a bit. Slap some axles under it and then finally do the kaz24es as I'm referring to it.

Even though it'll be a major PITA having a motor totally different than anyone else it'll be just as much fun. The wow factor when people look at it and try to figure it out will be worth it.

So really no other opinions from anyone else here?

If you do this I would strongly urge you to buy a high quality adjustable blow-off-valve, and go with the supercharger that can produce more boost. (I am assuming the Nissan one, but research would be needed).

Another question is where the pulley is in relation to the main body. The idea being that you need your pulleys to line up and does that make for some very restrictive intake setup?

How much boost are you talking about? The internals of a KA24DE (yes I know you have a SOHC and Z24 head, I'm talking about what I know) will handle 3-4 pounds even on an old tired engine. But it does sound like you want to rebuild it.

On turbo engines you need lower compression I would assume the same would be for supercharged engines as well.

I will say this, you have a really cool idea and don't give up on it. And check this out http://www.ka-t.org/
