Those are still in the works. I had a deal on this DOM that I just couldn't pass up.

4 24' sticks of 1.75"x.250 wall DOM for 300 bux. This crap goes for 9 bux a foot!!! I paid just over $3.00 a foot.

Both Lex and I thank you, Robert!!!! Cool

Sounds kinda' thick walled to me.

If you build something like that, where will you carry your gear on the AZ Run? Oh....sorry. Nevermind. Go ahead and build it. smiley36

yeah....probably about 6-8lbs a foot. That'll add up quick.

Truggie beds are cool, but you'll miss your ability to haul stuff.

I've thought about removing my bed. I've decided on keeping the bed since it does get used.

Ø1.75" x .25 wall weighs 4.005 lbs. per ft. Each 20' joint would be 80.1 lbs.

The plate alone can add up quickly. Without ridges for strength, you need to add a lot of thickness to get any kind of strength. 3/16" would be heavy and still be weak without support. You might get away with 1/8" or thinner, but will need some channels underneath for support.

I suppose you could bolt in some aluminum tread plate. That would look trick.

Just rambling on, thinking as I type. Razz

That's why I plan on doing all the "structural" stuff w/ the DOM. I'll prolly buy a stick of HREW .120 wall for non important bars.

As far as hauling stuff is concerned, I'll use the existing bed as a trailer. Around town, I've only used my truck for a truck maybe 3-4 times in the past couple years :/

I am tempted to take a before/after weight. I am removing the bed and light/roll bar, as well as removing more of the frame. Then, add in a cage. I bet it won't weigh more than 200lbs than what it does now.

As far as weight, pt 2:

DOM tube 1.75"x.120 weighs in at 2.089lbs per foot. Let's double that for the .250 thickness... 4.178lbs per foot.

Now, I have 4 sticks of 24', totaling 96 feet.

Now, estimating over 4lbs per foot, I'm at 384lbs for the tubing.

The bed alone weighs over 300... I am barely adding any more weight doing this.

Points already taken. For heavier stress areas (like a floor mounted tire carrier), I will x-brace as necessary. We'll see how things progress, as I am working on this on the fly.
