Water tank is installed and functioning. Needs some finishing touches, but it is ready to "field test". Wink

My truck has a ballcock. lol

I went with a standard 7 gallon Reliance container. It will be easy and inexpensive to replace if it gets damaged. All of the fittings were adapted to the fill cap. The only change to the container itself was to shave most of the threads off of the vent. I clamped the drain hose to that, so smoothing off the threads was necessary to get it to seal.

I drove the truck today with the water tank empty. It only got warm to the touch in that area. With water in it it should be fine.

Nonetheless, I will extend the heatshield downward on that side.

I hope it works out. I always carry water in the warm months. This will free up bed space. It will also be more secure than a jerry can tied in with rope.
It will be well tested before the AZ run.

I would be very worried about it's proximity to the exhaust pipe. It may be ok driving around, but putting around at 4mph on a trail with an empty tank and I think you're going to have a fire.
Why don't you just weld up a steel tank?

I'm not opposed to doing that. I just had to start somewhere.

So far, it hasn't gotten hot yet. I plan to add to the heat shield just in case the tank or muffler were to shift out of position for some reason.

For what it's worth, the outside of the glass pack does not get very hot at all. The only part that gets hot is the outlet.

I will also be welding a tab to the slider. I will drill the tab and the handle so that I can pin it closed for safety.

I added guarding to the drain hose by adding a garage door spring over the hose and clamping it in place.

I still need to secure the fill hose and add a filter screen to the vent hose.

If all goes well, the Meany will have all new steering by this weekend's trail ride.

Still need:
New CB on passenger side dash, remove airbag

Not sure if I'll do anything else. I'd like to do some 63" chevy rear springs and new mounts, but that might be further off.

I still need to upgrade my steering from heims to 1 ton TRE's. I am also going to cut the spring perches off and rotate the rear axle. If all goes well I will fix alot of the weak points before AZ8

I'll probably just show up... another year, and no lockers or gears, but I spent my play money on vacations and guns, so it was worth it, IMO, lol

It looks like I will be punishing my clutch again this year.

Once the bodywork is done, I am getting back on clearance and guarding. Maybe some reliability improvements.

What I REALLY need to do is find a practical way to double my t-case. (Don't we all. Roll Eyes )
