We'll whip something up when I get some time.
Thanks Carlton. 1998 Frontier 4x4, 2002 Xterra 4x4, and Z28 street rocket I eat at Taco Bell at least once a week. I know I'll feel sick afterwards, but I can't stop the craving. It must be like how a dog feels, when he eats his own poop. |

If I can't make the whole trip, what would you recommend.... say for 3 days.

3 days isn't a clean break due to the night 3 campsite being the most remote.

I don't think I can get the whole week off again. So what are good days to meet up and what are good days to leave.

We gots to do SOMETHING! I bought a 14" oven before CO and I've been experimenting with it... I've done biscuits and gravy (queef will vouch), a few desserts (I tried the pineapple upside down cake since yours was so good. It didn't flip right so it looked a mess - but it tasted AWESOME), a mountain man breakfast that is guaranteed to shorten your lifespan by 6 months per serving etc. You want to plan some group cookin'? Maybe even a cook-off would be cool... though it'll be hard to be too gourmet carting junk from Tejas. Or a completely different tack: If you've got the dutch oven cooking covered mebbe I'll leave mine at home and save the space since I'm obligated to bring the banjo and the projector? |

I'm bringing mine but I'm not doing a lot of cooking. I miss too much of the fun, shoes, etc.
All that cooking and cleaning is hard work.... Meh. |

Based on my limited experience and fading recollection, the updated itinerary sounds great, Andy.
I have a small ghetto fab setup for hanging a pot over a fire. I'll bring it if anyone thinks they will need it. |

so when its as hard as you wanna make it, is it also as easy as you need it.
I have a 84 720 on 31 open country AT's 3" BL, AAL and cranked bars. plus its open F&R. so it isnt the beefiest truck out there for sure. also is it a feed yourselves kinda thing? 1984 720 king cab 4x4 Z24 2" T bar crank RC AAL 3"BL open country AT 31x10.50's sawzall body-kit redline 32/36 |

It's definitely a feed yourself and bring all your own provisions kind of thing. Sometimes people will cook extra for everyone, but if that's all you eat you're going to be pretty hungry by the end of the week and people are going to be giving you dirty looks.
You will probably do OK in most places with the 31's. We have straps for anyplace you can't get through on your own. Brent 1972 K5 Blazer |

Pretty much what reddog said. We've never had a 720 on the run, so that'd be cool.

I had my '80 720 all over the place in the coves (9 years ago). That's where I finally got sick of breaking axles and got rid of it though
It was on 31" BFG AT's with 3" BL and 3" Suspension lift. Brent 1972 K5 Blazer |

If you can swing some kind of locker for the rear (assuming they make 'em for the 720) it will make SOOO much of a difference.
ETA - it looks like 4x4parts has a Detroit mechanical locker for the H190 axle for $550.. that's a lot of $$ - but lockers kick mega ass. |

The 720 might have a C200 axle too, in which case an ARB is an option.
You can tell which one you have - look at the rear diff. If it has a removable rear cover with 8 bolts, it's a C200. If not, it's an H190. 1998 Frontier 4x4, 2002 Xterra 4x4, and Z28 street rocket I eat at Taco Bell at least once a week. I know I'll feel sick afterwards, but I can't stop the craving. well, I do have a C200, got a 8 bolt cover on mine. kinda exciting because I have always been under the assumption I couldnt lock my truck besides welding the front. if I got a locker for it, would it also work if I ever bought some R&P's for the stanza which would be the 4.625:1 and ive been told will fit into my r180 up front and my c200 rear. oh, and the feed yourself thing is fine, I actually kinda like that but when i lived in WA we all kinda brought something and all ate the same food. but there was definately nowhere near the amount of people there that it looked like attend the AZ run.
also If I was going to weld the spiders on my front diff, and I removed the carrier and did the job, do I have to reset/reshim anything or can i just put it all back in like it came out and expect it to be set correctly. I really wanna do this though, I have only really been out in my truck once, sure ive played in the mud here and there but only real trails with other trucks once up in WA. I just moved down here and have no idea where apache junction is, how far from prescott valley. 1984 720 king cab 4x4 Z24 2" T bar crank RC AAL 3"BL open country AT 31x10.50's sawzall body-kit redline 32/36 |

I'm not a fan of welded diffs... I wouldn't do it unless you really just don't give a crap about the truck.
BTW - I just realized that some of the last few posts may have unintentionally looked, um, negative... It would be great to see you there, locked or not. There are always plenty of empty passenger seats in the more built rigs if you decide to sit a given trail or day out. ...and there is definitely a lot of food sharing... but it's just smart to plan on being self sufficient. |

I didnt take em as negative, I was starting to think maybe id sit it out though because I didnt wanna be the one who makes everyone have to stop, get the straps out and drag me through everything. I found an ARB but it was fo a c200 but it said 05 I think, didnt know that my axlew was still used that long, but it was about 932 bucks I think so that aint happening. and I was only planning on welding the front, never the rear, and that way I could only keep one wheel locked so that it wasnt stressed as much as if both wheels were locked, but if I needed to I could get out and lock my other front and at least have true 3WD. and I do give a crap about the truck, but i just dont really give a crap about my stock IFS.
and when you say I could ride along on a tougher day, I thought it was all a one way kinda thing and camping different places so i couldnt go back for my truck at the end of the day. 1984 720 king cab 4x4 Z24 2" T bar crank RC AAL 3"BL open country AT 31x10.50's sawzall body-kit redline 32/36 |

I'd weld the back before welding the front.
I have an extra C200 carrier to weld if you want it. 4x4parts.com would have the ARB you're looking for, but yes, it's expensive....over a grand with locker, Compressor, and install, but you'll be amazed what your truck will do. 1998 Frontier 4x4, 2002 Xterra 4x4, and Z28 street rocket I eat at Taco Bell at least once a week.
