Bah Humbug. All a rear locker has done is make me a dumber driver Wink But I am not giving it up. I'm hooked. Big Grin

Come on out. I've done four years of these runs open front and back. (I give a crap about my truck but it does show the wear and tear of the open diff rock hopping) Stay focused and you won't be the one we're waiting on, strap or not; I promise. The days that camp moves you'll be able to get from A to B unless you try some optional line way beyond what you know you can already do. Aw gee, a week in near Phoenix in March, bummer.

Arizona Run is habit forming. Ask Reserector.

alright, just a question though? why would you weld the rear before the front, aside from purely for traction. because it isnt my daily driver 100% of the time, and it never goes on long trips, but I do take it to work almost every day and occasional trips to HD or lowes for supplies for work. so the front wouldnt affect my driving during the day. I mean im pretty sure Im thinking this through correctly, in 2WD with the hubs unlocked nothing is spinning up front, if I weld the rear Ill either hop around corners or break something. and not only can i not swing over a grand to lock the rear, not sure I would want to spend that much on this axle that I really wouldnt mind getting rid of. I mean, honestly how much power do you think I could have under the hood pushing 35s with a locked diff and not break something all the time. I have no power right now, but soon I hope to have some. lol

Its more than habit forming, its ADDICTIVE!

I think having a locked rear is just a more useful mod, you would only really be able to use a front locker if you were really desperate, plust all that getting in and out in and out ..... And it puts MUCHO stress on the rest of the front end when you do use it. I would rather weld the rear first too.

BTW Andy, if that carrier is still available I might want to take it off your hands Smile whatcha want fer it?

I don't know if they redesigned the axles between 1980 and 1983, but if they didn't you'll snap front axles unlocked with 35's. I snapped mine unlocked with 31's without even trying with the L20B.

Mike, it's yours to come and get.

I have two - one from an R200a and one from a C200. I don't know which is which, or if there's any difference. You can have both!

I have played around alot with mine on 31's, and hopefully my Z24 is torquier than a L20 was...

and mine are still doing good... I might be buying my grandpas 1/2 ton ford to become my work truck since it gets better mileage, then I can tear into the 720 and not worry about it ever being daily driven again, and I am gonna sell my 90 camry soon to get a little cash.

I'm normally the one pushing for a rear locker before a front - but in Matt's situation (looking to weld the diff, still want to use it for a daily) it makes sense to do the front rather than the rear... that way when he unlocks the hubs it's just as streetable as it ever was.

Sweet! when would be a good time to stop by? I am finishing up my front end this weekend, but would probably be able to come by either sat afternoon or sunday. Or next weekend I don't think we have any plans yet.

anything happen if you register and then dont make it? also I still dont know for sure where this place is? if Im coming from prescott valley, about how many miles is it gonna take me to get there. my truck sucks gas and goes slow, so just making sure it isnt too far out there, looking at the registration page, looks like its probably around phoenix maybe?

and seriously is it just gonna be annoying trying to get through it on 31's and open F&R?

im looking into welding the front, i know not the best but until its not daily driven i am not going to touch the rear unless its a real locker and i cant afford a grand for a arb right now, plus dont really wanna put that much money into the c200 anyways.

Don't weld the front. I think you'll get through most of the easier lines open diff'd.

The meeting place on monday morning is at SR87 and Ft. McDowell just north of Mesa. Your best bet would be to come down I-17, exit 101 East, exit Shea Blvd East and take that all the way over to SR87.

Better yet would be to make arrangements to stay down here in the Phoenix area on Sunday night and head out with one of the others in the group.

Would Day 4 be an easy place to meet up? I am now certain that I will NOT be able to do the whole run, but I am going to forego my second wedding obligation... So, I was thinking about heading up to Phx Wednesday after work, taking Thursday and Friday off, to wheel with you guys on Thurs-Sat. Come back to Tucson on Sunday AM.

If that is a bitch, then I'll just meet for Payette on Friday.

I was talking to Brent via MSN Messenger, and he thinks Thursday is a good day to meet up. Probably at one of the gas stations in Pumpkin Center.

Andy, what time are you trying to break camp in the morning? When should I meet you guys in PC?

Well, I wasn't planning on going to PC, but we could go there for a fuel stop. In PC, there's a large gas station on the west side of the road...probably the only one. Maybe 11ish +/- 30 mins.

We'll be driving through PC between El Oso and Tonto Foothills right? That's why I suggested it. I assumed that after 3 days of running trails people were going to need gas and facilities smiley38
