I am gonna be using my truck for a daily driver and for occasional weekend off roading. I have been reading and some people recommend m/t and some recommend a/t. For my app, should I go with the all terrain tire since Im gonna be doing a majority of my driving on the road?

Since you have a 2wd, consider MTs on back and ATs in front.

Having had both AT's and MT's on a daily driver, I'd recommend AT's all around, hands down.

Yeah, but rear MTs would look much better! They would sound good too

Are you guys suggestin m/t on back for traction issues? Because I like the look of them, I just wasnt sure about the ride/handling on road. I also would like to have the same tire all around, mainly for looks reasons.
Also, what would be the best route for getting my rims powdercoated black? Do I have to sandblast them first? Daniel 1999 Frontier XE 2WD I4 AUTO - RIP sold 11/01/05 1994 Pathy XE 4WD V6 5 SPD - Bought 1/29/06 |

M/Ts all around. You wouldn't be saving much money by using both.
yeah, sandblast the rims and clean em really good. ----------------------------- My myspace page. TUPPERWARE!!!! "Never argue with an idiot, they will just drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience." |

Since I do a majority of on road driving, how do they handle and ride?

I do a majority on-road, and they do good. They are noisy, like any mud tire. The ATs will do great on road, but when you get in mud or sand, they lacked. I got more places after swapping my tires.

Sand and mud are what I encounter the most, besides loose gravel. Ive gotten WAY stuck in sand, but never in mud. I think I found the m/t I want to get. What do you think?

Those are pretty good. For another $10 or so, you could get the Goodyear MT/Rs. Have yet to see someone kill the sidewall on an MT/R, but I've seen a lot of the MT KMs go out.

Alright gentlemen...and I use that term loosely...you are all what I consider hard core offroaders and you're telling danielmid, who drives primarily on road, to go with MTs? Is that really the best advice?
Bottom line is that unless you're in mud or hardcore rock crawling, you dont need MTs. As for sand, its not about meaty mud treads, its about tire volume. If you're worried about getting stuck in the sand in a 2wd, then you probably shouldnt be there in the first place unless you're Robby Gordon in Glamis. Not trying to be a dick, just being practical. AT's last longer, have better ride quality (on pavement) and are quieter if you care about that. ============================== 1995 HB XEV6 4x4, AC Susp. I thought there was issue with that tire. Heard they spin off the wheel. Anyone know of issues with that? 2005 Xterra-s 4x4 |

With that being said, is the ride off-road hampered with the a/t more than the on-road ride would be hampered with the m/t?
And which tire are you talking about coming off the rim? The mt/r of the mt km? (And on a side note, Im not a new member anymore! Daniel 1999 Frontier XE 2WD I4 AUTO - RIP sold 11/01/05 1994 Pathy XE 4WD V6 5 SPD - Bought 1/29/06 |

well I have AT km's on my 2wd right now and they suck off road. I had Mt km's on my old 4x4 and they did not suck on or off road. As soon as the AT's wear out, I'm going with the MTR's.
It just seemed to me that my old 4cyl. 4x4 could go almost anywhere in 2wd. My v6 2wd does good but traction is not what it should be. 95' Hardbody XE-V6 77'280z 92'240 sx 98'Nissan 9.8hp outboard Nissan is a cool company. |
